SUPPER CLUB - Sun, Dec 27th
Good Morning!
Yesterday, I just HAD to pull out the tree skirt and take it outside to shake it, vacuum under the tree, and replace the skirt. You know - freshen things up a bit. Well it all got out of hand and by the end of two hours I had the entire house cleaned - even that dreaded master bath. That left us lots of time to go out and work in the wood. :-/ We got maybe 1/4 done of what we have to do. But we have a week of sunny weather coming out way so no hurries needed now. It's not going away!
JANA - I remember when my big brothers all left home and went into the service. I was little like Ethan and I would often cry myself to sleep because I missed them so much! Those cakes! Did you watch the Holiday Bake Off the four weeks before Christmas on Monday nights? It was a competition, of course - everything is nowadays. But their last thing they had to bake on the last day was those kinds of cakes with 'treasures' inside. clever how they did it! I think you will get great fun out of that cake book!
IRISH - your Christmas sounds jam-packed! But oh so fun! And how come I didn't know you have a dog? I need to know what kind, color, size, and name, please. Because I am a snoop. Though I prefer to be referred to as an "interested person".
CAROL - I'm interested in the 'new way' to bake potatoes! We had your pork chop recipe last night. I put it into the crockpot though, knowing I'd be too tired come 5pm to start cooking, It was uber-delicious! Thank you!
CHICKIE - Wow! What a crowd! but I would guess there are several helpers in that crowd - or at least as many as you can crowd into your kitchen! If they are game players, there is a game you can get for about $5 for a crowd that size and they can sit around the table after dinner playing it. It's not as much fun as Pictionary (in my humble opinion) but it is fun and is called Left, Right, Center.
TINA - I hope Kevin made it home OK. We saw your snow on our local news last night! Well, we saw El Paso's snow which I knew was part of your snow. Anyway when they showed clips of the Sun Bowl (that WSU won!) it was like they were playing in a blizzard! We had to laugh that it was the SUN BOWL.
Today - no wood! We will be having our usual 8am breakfast with my brother, per his request, laundry, and Seahawks game. Supposed to rain today so I'll be off-duty as to wood-detail. I may get an hour or two in my sewing room, too.
As to supper - I'm trying to think of what we have on hand . . Maybe a pasta of some sort - or a soup. I could even make a pizza which is probably what DH would 'order'. So - 75% chance it will be pizza.
how are the percentages running in your house?

Good morning,
Well my 9ers won't be shown today, good thing with the way they play. So after church I will be in attack of the uglies. They are winning at the moment!
Dinner will be in my new programmable crock pot that Santa brought. Pot roast. Tomorrow I am making dinner from my new Pioneer Woman cookbook, salisbury steak, and feeding Matt's family. They gave me the book with a note that they want to taste recipes from it that I cook. You ask the grands where they want to go out to dinner and they all answer Grandma's! Nice to be loved!
Enjoy,
Jana

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Sun, Dec 27th
Good late afternoon from a very dreary, rainy but warm, SW. Pa....It's a good day to stay inside and eat....Well, we did go to early Mass and then onto breakfast...Everyone made it to breakfast, poor waitress, but what a good time....Jackie and her fellow were leaving to go back to Philadelphia and Dan and his girl were going to visit her grandmother (who is terminally ill)...Came home to a semi quiet house but that won't last long....
Mary, don't you wonder why or how, with just the 2 of you living there, the house needs so much cleaning...AND laundry, just don't understand.....We don't have a dog, Scout is visiting us from N.Carolina...They have 2 dogs (that don't get along) so, Scout came this trip...He's a German Shepard, gorgeous, gorgeous dog but doesn't really like men so Scout stays in the laundry room most of the time...Their other dog, Casey, is a black Lab and is as gentle and sweet as they can be...She on the other hand, loves Jim...But she had to stay home, we'll see her the next time...No, our cats won't allow us to get a dog, they're not too happy when these come to visit....
That Left, Right, Center game is so much fun and everyone loves it...At our last Meals on Wheels Christmas party, we played it and because there were so many, we set up 3 tables with the prize being a poinsettia on each table.. I changed all the wording to sound like a MOW route with turn left on....street, right on ....road etc. Was so neat.....
Go Hawks!
Carol, I also need to know how the "new way" to make potatoes...I could eat potatoes 3 times a day, love, love em......
Tina, been worried about you and the snow...Hope everyone made it home OK...And here we are, no snow and it's the end of Dec. Go figure!
Also think, after all you've done in the past weeks, you should be sitting with your feet up, having a good rest....
Well, on to dinner....I think I made the mistake of saying, I MIGHT BE COOKING! Well, we'll have a full house again, minus Jackie and fellow....So, tonight (no ham), we're having swiss steak, mashed potatoes, gravy and a veggie...For afters, lots and lots of cookies and a tiny piece of coconut cream pie, that I've had hidden in the frig......
Happy eating.........................

Okay, here is the "Cook's Illustrated" way to bake a potato:
1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 450 degrees.
Dissolve 2 Tablespoons of salt in 1/2 cup of water in a large bowl. Place potatoes in bowl and toss so exteriors o potatoes are evenly moistened. Transfer potatoes to wire rack set in rimmed baking sheet and bake until center of largest potao registers 205 degrees, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
2. Remove potatoes from oven and brush tops and sides with oil. Return potatoes to oven and continue to bake for 10 minutes.
3. Remove from oven and using paring knife, make 2 slits, forming X, in each potato. Using clean dish towel, hold ends and squeeze slightly to push flesh up and out. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
By the way, I have no idea what we are having for supper. lol

Thank you Carole for how to bake a potato - Sarah and I shared a bag of potatoes - they are huge- one is enough for two people easily. She was baking hers tonight and since you posted the inside temp - we can check to see when they are done.
