SUPPER CLUB - Tues, Oct 20th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Oct 20, 2015 4:10 am

Good Morning!

Yesterday we hit 3 wineries and the honey place. I was picturing a pastoral setting with gleaming white hives under an apple orchard, but turns out it was a TINY dingy room at the front of a big machine shop. It was filled with dusty animal 'trophys' filling the walls, dirty ball caps hanging off antlers, unidentifiable items everywhere, and a stack of boxes in the corner that turned out held quart jars of honey. They young man who waited on us came out oof the machine shop we could see through the connecting door. Very personable, but very scruffy looking. But we got our honey! I only bought a quart, but my friend bought 8 quarts - two for each of her DD's for Christmas and two for herself. Oh, and we did find 3 wineries and logged 130 miles while exploring the countryside. A fun day topped with a simple tasty dinner, a last campfire, and an early bedtime. This morning, we are off to home! - 150 miles away.

JANA - we'll be watching! Thanks for the info because we didn't know. It will be a good game!

CHICKIE - Too windy to hang laundry?! I think that's called a windstorm! I also think you should share a photo of your new haircut! It sounds cute! I bet Doyal thinks he's got a new wife!

CAROL7 - yes, I bought honey. Refer to my first paragraph for a description of the "hivery"! lol!! Not what I expected! We are only two people, but I usually cook for four by design because my sweet hubby loves leftovers! I also buy burger at Costco and make small meatloaves and hamburgers and meatballs to freeze for busy days.

BECCA - I'm glad you were happy with the game last Sunday. I did think of you and wondered if you were watching. As for those Almond Joy cookies - they sounds heavenly. and I know exactly what would happen if I made them. So I'm not even going to look at that recipe! But maybe for a Christmas gift . . . .

IRISH - Look at you! Getting all "cooky"! But your Jim is loving that! Did Vick get hurt? Not that I wish anyone ill, but better him than a nice person. Oooh,, did I say that?? . . . Slap me! your soup sounds good. I love "freezer soup". I'd like to think I'm organized enough to keep a container in the freezer to dump in that last dab of veggies, meat, rice, etc and make soup when it's full. But what I usually have is a fistful of little baggies. But they work!

LADY CAROL - yooo hooo!! How is your Sir doing? I hope he didn't go all generous on you and share his "pneumonia"!! Gosh, I hope he didn't end up with REAL pneumonia!

TINA - hmmmm . . . are you still Klobasing?

Tonite's supper will be leftover chicken casserole. Our friends loved it and even asked for the recipe. I'll add a salad, or maybe just a green veggie. It will be nice to not have to cook after traveling half the day.

Easy PEASy is the order of the day. What are you coming up with?

Mary, sounds like a not good place to buy honey. We used to drive up to the Mimbres where Frankie's Uncle's family had an apple orchard and she really had your picture perfect scene :o) I loved her honey! Sadly her hubby passed away and they tore the apple orchard down and she doesn't make honey anymore, she got rid of all her bees. I miss that. It was always our September drive.
We didn't get any extra Klobase this year, just the leftovers from the lunch Frankie ate for supper. They usually sell it by the pound after 2pm but the guy that was calling bingo didn't do a good job at anything. Oh well.
I haven't had breakfast yet so I haven't thought about supper, I need to go look in the freezer and see what we have. I'll hopefully be back with that later.

Good morning,

Sarah and I are heading up tonthe old house to finish packing the store room - all the canning she has done. The house is almost empty and the POD is picked up. Still a few large pieces to go in the trailer. She is shutting down all the utilities shortly.

Dinner last night was wonderful - bd cake was a Tres Leches cake - Matt's favorite.

Tonight is soup - that wonderful white banned chowder with cheddar bay biscuits on the side. Might add a dump cake or something frim all the caramel apple pins on pinterest.

Mary - that honey place sounds like something I would walk in and out in a split second!

Tina - you sound like me needing breakfast before I even think about dinner! My uncle raised bees and we had wonderful honey from him for years. You get spoiled with the good stuff.

Enjoy,
Jana

Hello everyone,Nice day here but ours was spent in Optamologist Office & waiting at Lab for blood work.He fasted & when we get there the order has not arrived so his fasting was to no avail. He did get his PT for his blood thinner done. The joys of the med.World.

After all that we went to Library & ran into DGD with Sawyer & Tallulah. So we are visiting them tomorrow.Bern awhile & Tallulah is now running everywhere,14 months old.So cute, blond hair & it was in two little pony tails on side.

Maryz Sounds like you just ran across an old Country Boy that didn't put on airs for anyone.I have seen those kind.Hope you honey is good.I try to buy mine all local. After my Dad having bees I am used to good honey & it all doesn't taste the same.

Jana Glad the move is almost complete.Such a big chore.

Tina Hope you find some goodies in freezer.Too bad they had no Klobase leftover.

Lady Carol Do hope you & Sir are well. After my siege here I know it isn't fun.

After our morning of waiting we ate out at DHs choice. It is a 50s place here in decor. He had a giant burger.I had Chicken & rice soup with 1/2 turkey sandwich.Very filling. No afters needed......Becca

Good early afternoon from a very sunny, but coolish, Sw. Pa...It's says it's 81 out there but I have my doubts so I'll just stay inside...The last time I changed the sheets I put on the flannel ones but left the electric blanket in storage BUT, it is going on the bed.....You can tell when it gets a little chilly, BabyGirl gets very snugelly (if that's a word)....She won't let me alone and wants to be under the blanket....

Mary with all the wineries you've visited and all the tasting, are you buying????Have you found a favorite? When we were in Napa, I've discovered, out there, that's REAL wine, our's is more like "soda pop" as Jim would call it...I'm not much for honey, hardly ever use it...

Lady Carol, so good to see you at the table....AND your dinner sounds delish...Isn't it funny how long a hubby can prolong a sickness when it suits them.....And now I have this vision of you in a suit of armor fighting off someone trying to give you the germ, lol....Love to read your posts.....

Becca, You really had a busy morning...When you said you stopped at DH's favorite place, I thought it might be Subway....And speaking of subway, I'm going to have to stop at our's one of these times....With Terry coming up this weekend, I'm sure he'd like that idea also.....

Today, I'm working on the Halloween costume and was just about to ditch it....The machine that I was using decided to throw a fit, so I moved on to another one...The fabric is a jersey, stretchy kind of stuff, gorgeous but hard to work with....I ended up changing the needle and it seems to be working....I'm going to learn to say NO....
I'm still waiting to hear from my "head doctor" (go ahead and say it, nothing there, lol) and I still haven't had my tooth fixed...I did get my medication and just need to fit it into my schedule, lol...

For our dinner, what else, leftovers...Little bit of veggie soup, couple of stuffed peppers and 1/2 a baked potato....The bread pudding must have been good, it's all gone (and it was a big casserole bowl), so no afters........We really don't need them..............

Happy eating.................

Here I am... late again!!! I truly hope that I am late to my own funeral!!! I'm late to everything else, so perhaps I have a chance.

Tonight we had cereal for supper. We had friends come over earlier in the day to get a load of cedar logs that DH had saved for them. Randy has a saw mill, and he wanted to make cedar boards for woodworking with them. At 2:30 or so, we went up to the corner bar and grill (they recently re-opened) and had THE BEST burgers and onion rings. Mine was mushroom & swiss with jalapeños added (I like it hot!). Our friends left, and the dogs and I came back and went for a walk... I waddled! When we returned, I made a batch of salsa. It got done just awhile ago. Since we ate lunch so late, cereal tasted good for supper. I'm sure I'll be cooking tomorrow evening!

P.S. Mary--my hair looks just the same as it did in the picture with Lyn. Now the wandering long bangs are cut and controlled, and the furrows are hidden as long as the bangs stay in place. I thought of you today--our friend has two bee hives (wants one more), and she got 3.5 gallons of honey this fall from one hive! It was an established hive. The other is a new one this year, so she didn't harvest from it.
