SUPPER CLUB - Wed, Oct 14th

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Oct 14, 2015 4:04 am

Good Morning!

TINA - thank you for the recipe. I think you made that for us once, didn't you? It was great!

IRISH - I think maybe you should share that salsa recipe with us. DH loves homemade salsa. I like spicy - say medium heat. It it's too hot, I can't taste the food! I think the secret to eating spicy food is sour cream. Cuts the heat. Or drink milk with it.

LADY CAROL - glad your hero is home from his adventures. But sorry (for you!) that he came back with "pneumonia". Maybe he just missed you and wants to make sure to soak up a lot of your attention.

CHICKIE - I'm with you on Mexican and Italian food! yum! Once in a while I can go Chinese, but not a big fan of that.

JANA - I guess you are going to have to make your own chili rellenos. I tried that for the first time a few months ago, courtesy of Tina who texted me through it! They weren't too bad. How was the hashbrown thing last night? As a lover of hashbrowns, I'm curious . . .

CAROL7 - I'm not sure what a flex alert is, but sounds like an environmental thing? How do you make your mustard sauce? I make a simple white sauce and add some Dijon mustard to it. Great over chicken, like you had it. I also use it over eggs benedict and other dishes.

BECCA - did you eat last night??

Today is laundry day for us as we are packing clothes for our wine-tasting trip. There is no wifi at the state park we'll be camped at, so once again, I'll be AFK. (Away From Keyboard. We learned that and many other useful things, from Sheldon on Big Bang Theory.) But until Friday, I'm here!

Our pork roast was purrfect last night, except it was done sooner than I'd expected. So we had a big, holiday-type dinner at 2pm. Surprised the fur-kids but they got on board pretty fast, circling under the table like greedy little sharks. We have lots of leftovers, so reheats will be on the menu for tonite.

What's the word from your kitchen?

LOL Mary, Sheldon has us in stitches, he's so funny! Hmmmmm I'm not sure if I made Carne Asada when you were here, I know I made red chili meat :-) we might have to remedy that for next time ;-)
I hope Scottie is better.
Hmmmmm we had pork chops last night so I think the banned food will grace our table tonight, along with a salad :-) makes it easy for me :-)

Tina--I just saved your Carne Asada. I think I'll use some kind of tough meat in the freezer and see if I can't tender it up by marinating it overnight. Bring on the heat!!! (Sour cream on the side.)

Mary--I'm all for Chinese as well as Mexican and Italian. We went to Chinatown when I was a kid and developed the taste of the "real" stuff; we also went to Little Italy for Italian, and our neighborhood was Italian. Oh, I do love chiles relleños!!! Learned Mexican in Kansas, as we had a big population of Mexicans in our neighborhood who worked for the railroad and the kids went to my school. Enjoy your trip! What's a matter with Scotty?

Carol--I wish "real" home ec was taught in schools now. If I had it to do over again, I'd love to be an home ec teacher.

I have to take Odie and Boomer for shots in a few minutes. Poor babies--lots of love and treats when we return.

Dinner tonight... last of the lasagna, more green beans and salad.

Good morning!

Flex alerts are a California thing - when too much electricity is being used off the power grid, they ask you not to run certain appliances etc. You can also sign up for a smart meter that turns you off automatically and saves you money with a lower rate.

Dinner last night was a stop at Taco Bell. So tonight I will do the crockpot hashbrown dish. I have my "tivity" day girls here as Ethan calls them. They will learn to make homemade bread and turn it into cinnamon rolls. They will take and bake them to share with their families tonight. This weekend, I am teaching the ladies at church how to make fudge.

Also, Sarah is moving in this weekend. So that means more regular meals - Ethan is 2 hollow walking legs!

Enjoy,
Jana

Good Evening All......its still nippy and no sign of summer warmth...

have heard there are 3 clubs started in the village.....a book club.....a coffee morning club.....and a craft club....the thing about retirement is......there is so much to do.....so....will give the book club a miss.....that's my Aber day anyway.....but I do fancy the craft club(which is every other week) maybe I"ll be able to learn to crochet......and....the coffee morning is every Friday morn....so I"ll give that a go and see how we do.....

Chickie....Welsh Dragons are Spicy Sausages.....and depending on who does the mix.....they can be nicely comfortable....or....too hot to handle.....but they do spoil you for other ones......

tonight I am going to start cutting out for my "you"ve got mail" quilt....I did this pattern for a friends 60th birthday.....everybody loved it.....so this is for a friends son.....for Christmas......

It will soon be that time of year when I do Chicken Korma and Chilli for our caravan group.....think this may well be the last time.....said that last year.....but we were let down by one of the girls who wanted to take it on.....and then realised just how much was involved.....long live "slow cookers"...

Sir is still poorly.....so fed him....dosed him up with cough meds...and sent him off to bed with a hot water bottle.....and I shall now go on my way with the rotary cutter and ruler

todays menu....Steak and Ale Pie.....Creamed Potatoes....Carrots and Sprouts....Rice Pudding for afters....may sneak in a Jammy Doughnut with coffee later....

ADDENDUM! To Tina's Carne Asada... add 1 tsp lime juice

I have mine in the fridge marinating for tomorrow night and asked her about an acid... "oops!" she said.

Lady Carol--Isn't retirement grand! So much to do--hard to decide... I'm so far behind in all my quilting projects. I'd love to have time to select even more activities! Welsh Dragons sound like something I would enjoy.

The dogs were perfectly behaved at the vet today, and Boomer got a good bill of health. He weighs 17.5 and Odie is 19.5--what a pair! We plus Tinker Bell walked 2.7 miles through the pastures and trails this afternoon. Too nice to stay inside!

Carol--we have peak alerts here when electricity needs to be conserved during summer. Years ago, we experienced a lot of brown outs where the tv picture shrank around the edges and ACs got slow or shut down. It was a small town, and the infrastructure was old, but we also shut off the AC and anything else that was "on" other than refrigerators during those periods. We still have the peak alerts--usually when the temperature is over 100.

Hi Everyone,
Late here again. A flex alert is where people are asked not to use their major appliances and turn down the AC. Not enough electricity to go around unless we all conserve. The temperatures have been very high for several days and beginning Monday we have had higher humidity. Ask Californians which is worse high temps or high humidity and everyone will say high humidity. Now I look and see that Jana has told you too! Thanks Jana!

Tonight's dinner was a meatsauce on rice.

Maryz - I make a white sauce too and add a little lemon juice and both French's mustard and whole grain mustard. It is yummy!

Chickie - Wish I could have taught Home Ec, but even in college I realized that the programs would be cut. I was a little too late!

Jana - Must be fun to show the girls how to make cinnamon buns. I know how to knead, but I use my Kitchen Aid Dough Hook these days when I make bread.

Becca - Thanks - The school year will go quickly. I need to write a list of all the things that are difficult substituting. Like NO Air conditioning in classrooms that reach the mid 80's and above. The class I had today also makes me not want to continue.

Tina - Don't tell, but I like the banned food once a week too.

Lady Carol - Your dinners always sound wonderful!

Have a great day!
Carol
