SUPPER CLUB - Fri, July 3rd

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Jul 03, 2015 5:42 am

Good Morning to one of the hottest July 4th weekends on record here in the PNW. Whew! We're having our BBQ today and I've got fans out for our guest, both the electric kind and the in-your-hand kind.

Scottie was barking furiously this morning. I mentioned how the woods (about 15 acres) near our house are being bulldozed? Well, we've been wondering about all the animals that live there. Now I know where they've gone to! We have, not only an influx of birds and rabbits, but this morning a coyote is in our yard! Scottie isn't pleased! I brought him inside so the coyote could run off, but the reality is, there's not much place to run. We have the only woods around now. Glad I'm taking my cats off for the summer!

TINA - that really stinks about Frankie's job and non-raise. But here, my friend's dad was laid off just as he was almost ready to retire. So he got nothing at all! AND had to look for a new job and start all over again. I think the 401-K plans are the way to go nowadays.

CAROL - I reread my favorite books all the time. and re-listen to my audio books. I download them from a variety of libraries, thanks to my DD and DS who let me use their library cards.

CHICKIE - you DO know your little Odie, don't you! Guard, my foot!!

JANA - the end is in sight!! Hooray!! chix cacciatore over polenta! YUM!!

BECCA - we raised corn as a kid. It was at every summer supper and there were always 4 to 6 empty cobs on my plate!

Today is our BBQ and we're having burgers and the usual sides. I'm off to the store soon to pick up buns and a few other items - relish, Miracle Whip, corn, etc. There will be 8 of us altogether.

Hope your Fourth is safe and enjoyable!

Good afternoon from sunny, warm, heavenly, SW. Pa....We are certainly enjoying the gorgeous day but there is more rain in the forecast (that is, if you can believe those people)...

I just took the sheets off the line, need to get them back on the bed and Jim just finished mowing, once again, so, it's break time...I had been in the garden and finally we have ripe tomatoes....The 1st one was one of those little things and I popped that baby in my mouth so quick...Oh so good! The beans are taking over as are the zucchini....

Mary, if you want, you can always come east to get out of the heat, lol....Your BBQ sounds like a happening place...Was the mattress delivered? When your friends get a look at your "new" camper, Bill might have another job....Enjoy your company.....

Carol, you're not alone with re-reading books and I'm constantly coming home with ones that I've read....What's bad, I have a notebook with all my books listed and I always forget to take it to the Library with me.....But, you know, when you read something or watch something again, you always pick up something new, or I seem too.....

Tina, just not right! You work for something, hoping to make life easier and wham....When Jim worked, he made good money and all at once, the company was moving south.. They offered to send him south, but had to take a huge cut in pay and because he didn't go, he was terminated...Jim was only 55 and had to practically start over...We didn't have a mortgage or any debts but gosh darn, it just wasn't right....I sometimes wonder how, whoever is in charge, can sleep at night, doing what they do....Often thought, wouldn't it be great to be able to do a reverse role and let them see how it feels?

Gotta tell you what happened to me yesterday....Now you all know, I try very hard to be good..But sometimes, it's really not my fault...I was on my way home from doing errands and all at once, I find myself in the drive thru lane at Long John Silvers...I wasn't even on that side of the highway but some how the car zipped and zagged and there I was...And for those who don't know what Long John's is, they sell "mac n cheese"....I did get Jim some banned food but I got myself some chicken..So, Mary, it's not my fault there is a hint of "mac n cheese" smell in the car...My car really does have a mind of it's own.....

Now, tonight's dinner, more chicken...I have cut up breasts in the crock pot and hopefully, we'll either have chicken and biscuits or I might mix up some Stove Top and put it on top....And for afters, strawberry shortcake......

Happy eating.................

O.K. I have really lost my mind... First, Jana--I apologize for addressing you as Mary. I'm still thinking your dinner is awesome and nothing that would fly here, unfortunately.

Mary--Oh, I definitely know that little conniving Odie... always looking to outsmart me, and I have to work to keep ahead of him. I "locked up" bacon for mom yesterday so he couldn't get into it while I was in the LQS.

Irish--Mom really misses Long John's. They closed in town a few years ago. I want to go in your car when I come visit--it knows great places to stop!!!

Becca--I was hanging on by a thread at work when my late DH had his cancer. They were trying their best to get me out before I got all my retirement points.

Irish--that's sad about Jim's company. They don't care that it's difficult to move a family and uproot them. When they took the personnel out of the office and made it human resources, they quit caring for their personnel... we became expendable resources like office supplies or anything else to be used up and thrown away.

We are getting a shower to water DH's watermelon patch!

I have a funny to share... My DD texted me and said that she had gone to BOTH of the quilt shops in St. Charles MO where they are vacationing with family. The funny is that DGD was with her, and besides my Row by Row kits, DGD got a collection of FQs for her to make a quilt when she comes back to spend more time with me in a few weeks. She is HOOKED!!! DD does not sew, but she will go on quilting errands for me. I'm a happy woman!

We'll be having re-runs of the Chinese take out from last evening.

Enjoy!

We had leftovers from last night, almost didn't eat at all :-)
Mary, 1 good thing about Frankie's retirement is it's a government entity and if he left he could work anywhere else that has PERA, he has almost a full year of sick leave, vacation combined....he has exactly 2 years to retirement :-) He's going to go talk to the boss boss next week because he had sent out a letter a few weeks back that said the pay schedule would be raised so everyone would get their raises. Keep your fingers crossed :-)
