SUPPER CLUB - Wed, July 1st
Yikes! It's July! of 2015!! I'm still wondering what happened to 1969! lol!!
We're going to about 90* today. Our yard is green and shady and our deck has a roof, and if we're still too hot, our family room is in the lower level over our house - a semi-basement - so it's always cool. And if I'm still hot, I'm going to get out my Christmas Vacation and Polar Express movies. Snow visuals should cool me down!
ABITA - nice to see you! thanks for your chigger advice. We dont' have them here but got into them on a walk near Folsom, CA once while traveling. Didn't know what had got us. Figured we had an infestation of some kind in our motorhome so we sat outside until 10pm while we bombed it! lol! Finally, we figured it out. Miserable creatures!! worse than mosquitos!
CHICKIE - I agree! Let the birds have the berries! As for jam, no blackberry for us this year. The bulldozers moved in last week and the pretty woods and berry patches I used to walk through every day for years are there no longer. Everything is flattened for a new 'high-end' housing development. Makes me want to cry.
JANA - hugs to all your dear family as you send Stu off today! My DGS drove himself to a fabric shop in Bremerton and picked up a RBR pattern for me. He says he was man-brave to do it and was proud of himself! lol! he turns 18 tomorrow. Utah has some GORGEOUS patterns!
LADY CAROL - you survived another vacation! Sounds like it was a little bumpy, but all in all, a good time. If the food is good - I'm there! As you could plainly see if you could plainly see me! lol!
BECCA - happy to hear you got the new pneumonia shot. I get all the immunizations I can! Now - are your D-taps up to date? Every 10 years . . . .
TINA - Migraines while pregnant? Everyone I know who has had migraine "issues" is exactly the opposite - the headaches seem to stop during pregnancy. After having one huge migraine once 35 years ago, I really sympathize with anyone who has them!
IRISH - YOO HOO!!! Are you still out mowing your yard?
Supper at this house will be chef's salad. I have cooked chicken and black beans to add to it. As well as boiled egg, thawed peas, cheese, kale, cuke, tomato, and craisins. I might take my toaster oven out on the deck and bake some frozen Rhodes rolls, too, just to make DH think he's getting "fancy-fed".
Happy July, y'all!

I had never heard of migraines while pregnant either, strange side of the family LOL kidding
Holly was just telling me last night that when she's pregnant she's not like everyone else, it doesn't improve her skin and hair, she gets the worst case of acne and her hair turns nasty. I tell her I don't think she should have any more, but I don't know anything ya know.
I don't know what I'm fixin for supper, I'll have to get back to you on that.

Nice and pleasant weather here. 70 and sunny. Weird for July.
Supper? Don't know yet. Maybe I'll know at suppertime.
Last night the storm knocked out our power so we went to backup. Estimate from the electric company was the power would be restored at 7 barring any other outage problems. I don't know how they know that. Our house is all electric so always have to have a plan. Dug out the campstove. I hate cooking on gas. Started working on supper a little sooner than normal. It takes longer to do everything when the electric is out for some reason. We were having BLTs with the first tomato from the garden and mac and cheese (real homemade version) which was also a back up because the first choice - beef stir fry - didn't work out because I forgot the beef at the store. Anyway, got everything cooked and sandwiches made and laid out on the plates and the power came back on. About 45 minutes ahead of schedule. Had I waited, it was about the time I start supper anyway. OY Oh well. It tasted really good. I don't eat many store bought tomatoes.
I don't thing there is a worse thing than chiggers. Sometimes they feast on me, sometimes they don't. When they do, oh the agony. Takes weeks to get rid of all the bugger bite marks.
Well, think I'll go berry picking. It isn't raining so maybe I can get enough for a dessert.
Have a good one.

Good morning!
I got the genealogy stuff printed off for Stu - Chicken is thawed in the refrig and I am tired of leftovers - so the leftovers will pop in the freezer for a future day I don't want to cook.
We will grill the chicken and make a salad to go with. There is a huge tub of vanilla ice cream in the freezer, so we have afters for a looooong tme! LOL
My mom always said that you shouldn't get your hair colored or permed as it never takes while you are pregnant.
I love all the old wives tales out there too - my Portuguese grandmother always told my mom not to let the baby see a white wall - it will cause them to stutter
OK - off,
Enjoy!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wed, July 1st
Good morning from a chilly, dreary, dampish, SW. Pa...I have a feeling, our summer is over and we haven't even turned on the AC, lol....
Didn't make it to the table yesterday but I sure did eat...The gals and I went to lunch, a long 3 hour lunch...Ate good and solved all the worldly problems (for another week)..Then I took Jim to get his glasses adjusted and stopped at a new (to us) grocery store and picked up a few things...Jim was really hungry for pizza and ended up getting a frozen one that turned out pretty darn good....Was so good, he just finished up the last piece for lunch....
Mary, Yep, I'm still mowing that darn green stuff that we call a lawn..But, I wait and wait until I see Jim about to collapse and then I very nicely ask if he'd like me to help, lol....I had to laugh about you watching those "snowy" shows...A few years ago, on a very hot summer day, I cam home to find Jim sitting in the AC cooled living room, in his shorts watching the tape of a Notre Dame/Penn State football game being played in a blizzard...Oh, and he had a beer in his hand and was quite comfortable...
Tina, that is strange about the migraines...If it had been up to me, I'd have been pregnant all the time, lol...I felt like a million, never sick and healthy as a horse (kind of looked like it too)....And don't you know by now, Moms don't know anything BUT one day, she'll realize how very smart you were....
And I'm with Tina on the supper bit....Not in the mood to cook so it might be soup and grilled cheese....We picked up some donuts and cookies yesterday so we have lots and lots of afters.....
Happy eating...........

Good afternoon!
Abita—good to see you! Thanks for the chigger info. I did everything you said, but I still got them. They must really like me. I’ve been to the doctor before with a really bad case of them. They are definitely worse than mosquitoes and even ticks… because you can’t see them! Grandma used to use powdered sulfur in her socks before she went to the garden. I don’t have any. I also have something I got in the hunting section that I treat my blackberry picking jeans with that you can’t put on your skin… just soak your clothes. It works super for ticks… just not so much for chiggers.
Mary—what was the pattern from Bremerton? I remember riding the ferry from there… the one time I was in Seattle and the area. Sounds like your walking route may be changing. So sorry about your berries!
Becca—“Chigger Road” is cute! Here it is Chigger State! They are horrible!
Irish—we will be going to town and mowing with the push mowers on Friday. I need to see if the temps will be any cooler. We have a slight chance for rain every day for a week. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Jana—I love left overs because I never want to cook! I feel sorry for my DH getting the same menu over and over. I’ve never heard the “white wall tale”… some of the tales have validity, but some are just way “out there”.
Lori—we are total electric and have no plan. We don’t even have a grill or a camp stove. Our plan is to find some of the kids with power still on… guess that’s a plan after all. It definitely takes at least two weeks for the chiggers to go away. I’ve tried everything… nail polish to smother them… Vaseline (at least it makes my skin soft)… I want to pick up a bar of lye soap at the hardware store to shower with after I’m outside. Hope your berries are delicious!!!
Tina—hope you find something to eat! It’s been almost 50 years since I was pregnant. I can’t remember anything except HOT Kansas summer without air conditioning, working, and craving green grapes and jelly beans. Thankfully she popped the chute a month early and I didn’t go through August waddling and sweating.
Dinner will be re-runs of last night’s meatloaf, corn, potato salad and baked beans. I think I’ll have my meatloaf in a sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes and onions.
Enjoy!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Wed, July 1st
Good HOT afternoon! I need to get out and buy batteries fro mouse, but hate to budge, as I had a slight heat stroke yesterday. Actually believe it originated on Monday afternoon when I walked to the apt. office, thru the UNAIRCONDITIONED hallways. ABout a 2 block walk. Feel air is on now in hallway. When I got back to apt., was dripping wet. Rested awhile and took a shower. The yest. a early AM dental appt., and car was hot. Oh, well, I will survive.
Have any of you seen the log cabin quilting block section on EBAY. I have bought a few to make for a birthday and graduations. If you go to FACEBOOK under Ellerbach, you see a pic. of my daughter Jennifer with my grandson Alec and my ex hubby. Jennifer looks worn out, it was the eve following Alec's grad. they were all out to dinner, but I was not invited. I am still upset about this. Asked her, but never felt I got a decent answer. Alec is a daring young man. The pic looks like Alec has his arms around them, but it is the background and his left ear, facing us looks like he has an earring, but just the lighting. T
My SIL's parents invited me to their house for Christmasday, however, Jennifer never told me. C. Eve she picked me up from rehab facility where I was recovering from broken raibs. Ate dinner at their home and they brought me home.. SUrmized I would stay the night. Another interesting turn of events. Not sure what is going on, so I live with it. They are going camping in their 5th wheeler this weekend, guess who is not invited. Doesn't this all sound lke a re-run of past happeneings in 08 and 09?
My birthday is next week, but sent her a text recently, no birthdays for me or presents. I am fed up with their celebrating the gandsons birthdays without family.
Her step mother was wondering I amsure what was going on the nite of the grad. Need to get in touch with her. She is sovery nice. Editor of Tulsa World.
Excuse errors. Was going to address each of you, but it seems Mr. ZAC, my cat is in need or prompt loving.
Keep cool.
Love and hugs,
Helen

Well, have to wait on berries. Not many ripe ones. It's not very hot and we've had too much rain. Oh well.
The electric going off here is a common occurrence. I suppose we've gotten used to it.
Did come up with something for supper. Ham and fried potatoes.
