SUPPER CLUB - Tues, May 19th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue May 19, 2015 3:23 am

Good Morning,

We are having a week of such nice weather here! All in the 70's and sunny. Very pleasant working outside. Though I'm getting tired enough doing that, I'll be welcoming some rainy days soon!!

JANA - I think I'm going to use your tortellini idea for tonite, only sub in some cooked chicken for the keilbasa, since that's what I have. I am ready for something different.

BECCA - oooh, so sorry you have to get a crown, but it will probably solve your problem. I wish you could come see where your DGS lives here in WA. It's such a pretty area. And you could also visit me!!

IRISH - congratulations to your Cari! I would love to have seen that competition! Planting all those flowers! You and your sis must be tired! That's hard work!

GENERAL LADY CAROL - thank you so much for the 'tutorial' on Dr. Who. I've never seen the program but I have heard of it. My DGS is a fan. I passed your info on to my Sis-I-L who made the quilt. She's never seen the show either and had no idea what she was making! lol!

CHICKIE - I never heard of that tick associated with beef allergies. OK by me, too! lol! Once again, we learn new things here at Supper Club!

TINA - I know what you mean about summer suppers. If I don't make some sort of plan early in the day, come 7pm, I'm at a loss and end up with Cheerios! and that's OK!

HELEN - hello, and welcome to Supper Club!

Pasties, I believe, originated in Cornwall. You can fill them with whatever you wish, but generally, they are hand-held meat pies that the miners took in their lunch to eat below ground. They could get a full meal without using dishes or utensils. many of those miners migrated to Michigan, where Bill is from. entire restaurants in the Upper Peninsula specialize in pasties (pronounced PAST-ies, not PASTE-ies). I like to dice up leftover pot roast, potatoes, onions in mine. I use a regular pie dough, roll out a circle of it, put the filling on one side, and fold it over, crimp it, brush with egg, and bake it. I often make extras and freeze them to bake later.

Well, I think I covered our supper plan - tortellini with broccoli and chicken in it with a cheese sauce over. And salad. Thanks, Jana!!

How's your dinner plan coming?

Good morning!

My beautiful bright blue sunny skies, are hiding behind some nasty thunderstorms. We will have them until next week. The rain is very welcome. Even snow up in the mountains.

I have no idea today for dinner.

I need to finish about 12 inches on Emma's quilt's binding. And need to address all of Stu's graduation announcements. Not a whole lot of them, but I do have halfway decent penmanship. So I get elected to do them, weddings, etc.

Pasties are Sarah's DH's favorite. He learned to love them when he served his mission in Leeds England. Sarah is still perfecting the crust recipe.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good morning from overcast, damp, slightly cooler, SW. Pa...Yesterday was hot and humid and then the rains came and now, we're probably 15 degrees cooler...But, this is Pa....I wish there was a way to "bucket" up the rain and send it west.....

Mary, I know what you mean about getting tired of those outside chores...After we finished the graves, I started on my flower beds, ran out of plants and need to make another trip to the nursery, darn, lol.....This time, I'm not taking my sister, she gets me into too much trouble....I talked to Kathy last night and she told me, DH had picked 2 tomatoes and of course had to tell me how good they were, brat!
And, I didn't know there was a name for those little pies...I haven't made those in a long, long time but will have to keep it in mind...

Chickie, that is interesting about the tick...But, like you, that allergy would be OK with me...Now if it caused some sort of "cinnamon roll" allergy, then I'd really be upset....

The tortellini sounds so good but have non on hand so I guess that's for another night...I might have to throw some chili in the crock pot, either that or spaghetti and meat balls....Not sure what goodie I might be baking........

Happy eating............

Irish and MaryZ--I think it was on a program on BBC-America about odd stuff. It makes you break out in hives when you eat a burger or steak (any beef) and can be pretty serious if it's worse than that. Just what we need here... another tick disease!!! There are already at least four others around here not to mention a bazillion ticks that are ready to jump on and bite.

Pasties--how can you go wrong with CRUST and hand pies???

Tonight will be cream of asparagus soup (low fat... no heavy cream). Last night we had broccoli and sweet potatoes for our vegetables. I'm not sure now what will be with the soup. Maybe just cheese and crackers. There is a lemon bar left for DH's dessert.

Good Evening All.....heavy showers again....that rain... is very wet....got soaked twice.....the second time didn't matter quite so much.....was still wet from the first time.....

Mary....the Cornish pasties were the coalminers dinner.....the wives would put savory at one end....and "afters" at the other end....pastry was then thrown away because of the coalminers dirty hands....my head is full of useless information like that.....

today was my Aber day....met a couple of old bus mates....that was nice....can go a few weeks without seeing any of them.....then suddenly see 2 together.....

todays menu....Cheese and Leek Quiche with Salad....Rice pudding for afters.....

Last night was dinner with the Pringles at Cracker Barrel...always one of our favorites.

Tonight is leftovers from Sunday (lasagna and ribs that Earls daughter brought over to share on Sunday) and the leftover ham and greenbeans.

The Reds play tonight, and I'll tape the Bachlorette and the finale of DWTS. I'm hoping for Rumer..

Beautiful day today...upper 60's and sunny!! LOW humidity! Yeah!!!!

Joanne
