SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, April 28th
Good Morning!
Yesterday we had 77* and sunshine. Today - we will be lucky to hit 60* and not get wet! And I was just getting a good head of steam built up out in the yard. Guess today I'll wear a rain hat instead of a sun hat!
IRISH - know you're off helping your Sis and BIL, but hope you're eating right! If not right, then tasty!
JANA - we have a fireplace insert upstairs and a wood stove downstairs. Both have flat tops for cooking during power failures. I often cook on them anyway, in the winter when I just want to let a soup or stew simmer while we watch the news. . . . Lucky you, having supper fairies! That happened to me exactly one time - my DDIL brought a meatloaf supper to us for Mother's Day and I wasn't allowed in my own kitchen. Best meatloaf and Mothers Day ever!
CHICKIE - sorry "Frosty" joined your party last night. But I'm sure that didn't spoil the fun! Yes, I remember Hugh O'Brien and even his resonant voice. I also can recall The Rifleman, Paladin, Wagon Train, Laramie, Cimarron city, Destry, Maverick, and The Streets of Laredo. Bonanza was a late-comer but my favorite show when I was a pre-teen. I was going to run away and marry Michael Landon. and now I've thoroughly dated myself!
G.L.C. - I'm loving the education we are getting from you! But I need to know about cats. I know there's a word, but can't come up with it. And I'm talking kitty cat here, not lions! lol! My DH keeps saying "plethora" but I think he's being a smart alec! Chicken in wine sauce sounds YUM!
TINA - I'm glad you're feeling a little better. Were you able to get into the doctor? If so, what did he/she say? Your beans sound good. I love pinto beans, especially over boiled potatoes. A comfort dish from my youth.
BECCA - love all your flowers! Would painted face violets be what we call violas here? Like tiny pansies? You should take photos of your flowers and frame them for those snowy winter days!
I got in about 3 hours of yard work yesterday - wasn't in my plan but the weather was too nice to stay inside. Scottie helped. He thought all my tools, including my hands, were his personal chew toys! Then he and Foxy played Hide and Seek and Chase in the shrubs where I was working. Today, a big cool down and maybe rain so I might not be outside.
Supper - I think it will be meatloaf for us tonite. I have one in the freezer that I made after our last Costco run. Mashed or baked potatoes, carrots, and salad. I think that will do it for us. We have ice cream sandwiches for afters.
Happy cooking, y'all!

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, April 28th
Good morning,
Mary - my new stove has a electric oven, but a gas cook yop. They calk it dual fuel, so I can cook during a outage. Wood burning has just about been banned completely here. - I love the smellmof a wood fire!
Dinner - yesterday I did a chicken enchilada cassarole - Michael said I could do it again. Leftovers for lunch. So the tacos I thought of yesterday will be tonight.
General Carol - DH was wondering if they still have those iconic red telephone booths in England? We have a new favorite show from acros the pond - Father Brown - and they appear in the show all the time.
Enjoy,
Jana

MaryZ--I remember all those shows, too. It was so funny... distances meant nothing. Marshall Dillon would ride over to Topeka from Dodge and back in just a few minutes. It's at least a several hour drive at 70 mph on the highway! I think the cowboys on TV were a lot better looking than they were way back when. I almost literally ran into Michael Landon back in 1964 when I was on my honeymoon. HE was the most lasting and memorable part of it... back when he was young on Bonanza. He was wearing tan jeans and a red polo shirt and looked divine!
I think we may make 70 degrees today! Haven't seen it in a week or more. DH wants it warmer so his watermelons and cantaloupes will push out of the ground. I think he may need to replant.
Jana--that is a neat stove! So many gas stoves have electronic ignition and it's hard to override and get them lit. I am total electric--my choice. If the power is out too long, we'll find some of the family that still have propane and hang out there... So sorry about the wood ban, but I do understand in your area. I like the free-standing heating stove with the flat top--had one 30 years ago and used it for heat and cooking.
Lady Carol--I'm really liking the education, too. I hadn't heard many of those, and I wondered why crows were called "A Murder"... now I know. How mean of them!
I haven't figured out dinner tonight yet. It may be clean-out-the-fridge night... little dabs of everything but nothing to put together for a casserole. Smorgasbord.
Enjoy!

Good morning
Easton is playing so I have a minute before I go sort laundry. I cancelled my Dr's appointment because I was feeling better, can't see paying $25 just to have him tell me that I will be fine in a day or two
I would much rather spend that money for a good massage
wishful thinking on my part I'm afraid.
Chickie, I never thought about the cowboys making such good time till you mentioned it LOL even in today's movies LOL I'm gullible LOL I did get to meet Ron Ely when I was 13, he was a hunky hunk for me then too
he was my favorite Tarzan even before I met him.
I just gotta share something really funny with you all....Easton keeps going to Duncan (my male cocker spaniel) and hugging him and saying Tina Tina Tina! LOL we don't have a clue where he heard the name, maybe he's saying something else but it sounds like that
and he knows Duncan's name, he's so goofy.
Supper tonight is burritos, mine will be without the tortilla and mixed in with my salad
Tina

Good Evening All....a little sun struggling to get through......but that wind....I swear it brings in a colder chill as the weeks go by....
My Abergavenny day today....and it was crowded....probably because we have another bank holiday week end coming up.....
Jana.....those lovely old Red phone boxes have caught a terminal illness.....its called....Mobile Phones....they are few and far between now.....they are sometimes put up for sale.....so from time to time you will see one gracing a garden....I can remember one being turned into a Shower "Room"
Mary....sorry cannot help with the kitty cat grouping....they are probably too little and gentle to be referred to as a "Pride".....but be assured....if I do find it I will add it to the list
OK.....next round.....a Charge of Curates...a Group of Cyclists...a Chorus of Dancers...a Corps of Diplomats...a Board of Directors...a Doctrine of Doctors...a Confederacy of Dunces...a team of Footballers...a Stalk of Forresters....and this one I must add to tonights list it just jumped up at me....a Herd of Harlots...(the mind boggles)
todays menu.....Liver Bacon and Onions...Creamed potatoes...Runner Beans and Peas....Vanilla Ice Cream and Toffee Sauce for afters...

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, April 28th
Last night was dinner with the Pringles...at Bob Evans..yum.
Tonight I pulled some leftover spaghetti sauce from the freezer, made a salad for Earl and called that supper! lol! Easy and quick.
The weather is another replay of yesterday...60 ish, sunny and beautiful. The village wide yard sale is this weekend...but they are talking about rain on Thursday evening...the night we set it up, so unless the forecast changes to dry, we won't have one. Friday is the best day.
Back to the TV...the Reds are playing...I'm recording Dancing with the Stars.

It is warm here today!
I think a group of cats is called a crowd. I learned that from "Big Bang".
Tonight's dinner will be leftover Mustard Sauce Chicken.
