SUPPER CLUB - Dec 20th
Good morning!
Day after tomorrow the days start getting longer! I'm all for that!
We're going to have about 68* for Christmas day and 70* the day after. Then we'll be back in the weather toilet after that. Which would be fine except that every year we come south because Bill insists he HAS to have warm sunshine. And so far there's been very little of that - any year we've been down here! We're no warmer here than at home, but confined in 200 sq feet. Together. All day. Every day. Day after day.
CHICKIE - happy late birthday to your DGS. How old was he?
BECCA - almost out of baked goodies here . . . just sayin' . ,
JANA - let me rephrase my question: What is "matzo"? I'm thinking cornmeal?
IRISH - What a great DGD to call and ask what cookies you'd like! But she's Jim's favorite! lol!
ABITA - hope you and your Babylock have a great weekend!
JOANNE - yoo hoo!! Did you do too much cooking this week and had to lie down?
Well, I thought I had dried peas, but didn't. I thought I had lentils, but didn't. What I had was 2 bags of pearl barley! So that's what I used. I dont' think I've done much cooking with it before. My gosh, but that stuff multiplies! We ended up with barley everywhere!! It sucked up as much water and broth as I could add to it! So we ate it as a main dish, not as soup. and I only used half the bag! It was good, and we have enough for tonite and I froze enough for another night.
What's taking over YOUR kitchen tonite?

Hi
You are not alone. My late MIL told me to use barley in Turkey Soup so I did. However, like you it sucked up every bit of moisture and looked like a pot of mush or concrete. Needless to say after I added more broth to thin it out I had a lot of soup for quite awhile.
I still haven't learned to use it correctly but there must be recipes out there and I keep thinking it is probably good to eat I just don't know how to do it, like so many other things however next year I will just have to learn.
Happy Holidays to All
Happy Sew Healthy NEW YEAR too.
My New Year's Resolutions are to get to my fabric everyday and get organized and sew something daily.
Thanks to all my quilting friends that have supported me with love and help and you don't even know you did it.
Love and Hugs

Good morning!
Mary--he was 16. I just can't believe it. He was our Christmas miracle--a private adoption that happened to fall together in a matter of days. The kids got to be in the delivery room, and the hospital gave them a room after the delivery and gave DD a band that matched the baby. He got to stay in the room with her. What a Christmas!
I love barley! It makes a great pilaf in place of rice, too. So funny about it multiplying! I can see it now... ha, ha!
Tina/Patches--best wishes to you! Life hands us scraps, but we prevail and make quilts!
Jana--I've never seen Matzo Meal in the stores here. Guess we don't have enough Jewish population to stock it. I'd still like to try some! I'll look when I go to Joplin next time. Sounds like puffy dumplings in chicken soup--YUM!!!
Our DS3 came over earlier and got some powdered milk from me. He was making cinnamon rolls. He said he learned the hard way about scalding milk and killing the yeast. We had some good laughs for the few minutes he was there. Anyone who steps into the kitchen has stories... I know I do!
I'm making taco soup to take at noon to the dinner for DH's late wife's family. They have adopted me as another sister, and I love being with them. We'll get together again this evening for left overs, visiting and card playing. It will be a fun day! Hope I get in a little sewing this afternoon.
Enjoy!

Good morning,
Matzo - is a cracker - matzo meal is just those crackers ground fine. I buy Manichvietz (sp) matzo ball mix - we found it in the pasta aisle - other places it is in the soup aisle. You can cook the matzo balls in any broth you want. They swell up quite large from the size you originally roll them.
Dinner here tonight - all depends on if after the uglies are caught up , if I want to cook or not. Tomorrow will be country fried chicken with country milk gravy over rice - Daniel's favorite.
Enjoy,
Jana

Good Afternoon everyone, overcast with drizzle. Not my kind of weather.
MARYz Do I hear a hint of wanting to be back Home? I too would expect sunshine but we take whatever comes.Hope it gets better. And I know that space is small.LOL
I have never used the matzo meal either. On your barley Maryz I thought it did take alot of broth.I do not use it.
To make my dumplings I use all purpose flour but mine is the Southern way that my Mom used.
PATCHES We qilters are a special breed I think.Always ready to lend support.Hope your New Year is a quilty one.
Made my fudge this morn & it is one of those stories to tell. Not creamy the way I like but DH seems to have no problem with it.I just cannot give it away as gifts like I planned.
DH wants his bacon fix.I will add beans & salad for me.
LEVI is due in tonite. So excited to see him......Becca

Re: SUPPER CLUB - Dec 20th
Good early afternoon from cold but some times slightly sunny....Sun, yes that big yellow thing that tries to stay hidden, especially in these parts.......
Mary, I now have this vision of you, Bill and all the fur babies slowly being covered by expanding barley...This could be a new Scifi movie or whatever they're called....But, as long as your dinner was good, that's all that counts.....
I've never had matzo balls either but they do sound good....Jim might be in for a treat...
I had to run for blood work and to get the mamms gramed this morning but now I'm back home to stay....I hate going out! But, in my mail this morning I got more fleece and now can work on another blanket...
Mary, I think you're right about Cari being the favorite, lol...She is also our Irish dancer...She is special....
Well, not sure what our dinner will be...Do have left overs from last night and also part of a Subway left over from lunch...Sounds like enough to me....I don't need to eat, I'll be sewing.....
Happy eating...............

I'm here! Today I made Cranberry cake to hand out to the neighbors and the crew of Dinner with the Pringles..and a couple of friends...that was three batches! It was an all day event..Earl decided that I deserved a dinner out tonight so we went to Mama's Grill..!!
Irish, you must have stolen our sun...we haven't seen a peep of it for a week...and it's mighty cold out there, too!
Last night we had carry out from Krogers...
Joanne

Hi from chilly, nasty south La., My guys got 6 ducks today. Oh yum! Not my favorite to eat, but I can cook it to their satisfaction.
14 years ago our DS#2 was born in Houston. He was a scrawny little thing, but now he is taller than me! I'm putting together a little lap quilt for him. Babylock's tongue is hanging out! ;o)
All my shopping is done, but not the wrapping. I will spend some time tomorrow doing that before they get home.
Dinner tonight is a hamburger. Prayers to all, Abita
