SUPPER CLUB - Friday, Nov. 21st

Post by AbitaQuilterMom » Fri Nov 21, 2014 2:17 am

Hi everybody, Our family is starting our Thanksgiving holiday this evening by going on our yearly trip to a Quail Plantation in Mississippi. The guys go hunting for quail and pheasants behind well trained, beautiful, hunting dogs. The meals are wonderful. I will let ya know what's for dinner later. Keep warm and thank God for today from Abita Springs

Abita, your quail hunting trip sounds like a lot of fun - except for the quail part. I just couldn't do that.

Irish, I imagine a lot of tears are going into the stitches of that quilt, but it's also therapeutic. I remember making scrapbooks for the kids of their dad. Very difficult. And you can't cry into paper!

Well, I've lost all control of our menues! Last night's happy hour turned into a food-fest! So no lentils, and no rice for us. There were lots of folks, some I'd never met, and a ton of food. I took a tray of deviled eggs - one of my favorite offerings at events like this. And tonite was supposed to be out to a restaurant called The Catfish Grill with 3 other couples. Good Gravy! I voted no and cited my rules (you all know them!!), but it was 7-1. Gaacckkkk!! But rescue is at hand!! This morning yet another couple of mutual friends said they are coming to visit us all today so if supper is out, it will be Mexican. Whew!! I dodged one there!

Abita--sounds heavenly! Enjoy!!!

Irish--I hope your quilt is comforting, therapeutic, cathartic, and full of precious memories as you work on it. I know it is truly a gift of love and a tribute to your wonderful son. You are special!!!

Dinner here... I MUST go pull something from the freezer. I think I'll make taco salads. Last night I opened cans of soup when I came home. At least there was some homemade bread on the side and banana bread for dessert.

Jana--I did my kitchen on a strict budget. I have champagne tastes, too. Had to settle for good beer, but I really like everything. The only thing I do miss is the Jenn-Aire stove top, but I am liking my free-standing range with the two ovens just fine. We used counter tops that friends took out of their house when they put in granite, and I built my kitchen around the shapes of them.

We were talking about disguising veggies for my DH... my DD, at her church yard sale for 50 cents, found the cookbook written by Jessica Seinfeld "Deceptively Delicious... simple secrets to get your kids eating good food" where she uses purees of stuff slipped into everything. I brought it home for ideas... Poor DH...

MaryZ--you sneaked in on me... I'll be the ### Grill served something besides %%%. But, Mexican definitely works for me!!! Doyal got lentil stew from a can last night, but I added some sausage... no rice, since we didn't want to wait for cooking time for brown rice. You are to F*** like DH is to veggies! (Grin!)

Hope everyone finds something they like on their plate tonight!

Good morning,

I love fish - well most - there are a couple of species that are on the do not eat list - catfish is one of them, bass is there too.

In the past, Michael has kept me on a strict budget, but with him consulting part time, he allows me leeway. I have him well trained! LOL I too had champagne tastes, but only a water budget!

Dinner, might be leftovers from last night, or I will get out a package of the Dover Sole I have in the freezer.

Enjoy,
Jana

Good late afternoon from still another cold day, here in SW. Pa....

Not sure how therapeutic this quilt is but I'm sure going through the tissues...But, I think, that's good for me...I'm in my sewing room and if I want to sit there and cry, it's ok....I talked to Kathy last night and she said, she has her days or moments, but she's trying to keep busy...I just can't imagine what she's going through.....

Mary, you are so funny about dodging the f*** dinner....We don't eat much of the "mac n cheese" but every once in awhile, a good filet tastes good..But, like Jana, no cat fish or bottom feeders, yuck!

I have a feeling our dinner will be one of those " help yourself" or "whatever you feel like"....My sister called and practically dragged me out of the house and then we stopped for lunch....Poor Jim, gotta fend for himself......

Have a good evening.......
