SUPPER CLUB - Thursday, Aug 7th

Post by purrfect-lady » Thu Aug 07, 2014 3:43 am

A whole week of August - *POOF*! I must be having a really good time because it's certainly flying!!

JANA - happy belated birthday to your Michael! I think you should have gotten him a side-by-side for his gift. You live in the heart of ATV country!! The Piaute Trail is just down the pike from you - 2,000 miles of trails! People come from all over to ride in Utah. We don't do any of the risky stuff - we just like exploring the mountain trails.

CHICKIE - so just how many tomatoes did you plant? Are you canning any?

Our party last night was fun. Swiss steak in the crock-pot is so easy. I swapped my planned asparagus for green beans which I cooked 'til tender and then added cooked, crumbled bacon. I had seconds myself and I don't even care for green beans! We played cards afterward and I was in bed by 10, kitchen cleaned! We're going to be doing this all over again on Sunday - but different friends and different food.

Tonite - leftovers! Good ones!

Good morning from sunny, warm, purrrfect, Sw. Pa....Checking the good old weather channel, we're to have great weather up until Tuesday...Now, we'll see if they know what they're talking about.....

Mary, what did you do to your steak? I usually do mine in the pressure cooker but I'm starting to use that crock pot more lately....My favorite green bean recipe is the old Thanksgiving stand by with mushroom soup...And why we only have it on thanksgiving is beyond me, lol....

Today is bingo day for Jim and run around day for me....I've made my list and checked it more than twice and am ready to roll...AND there is a lot on that list from JoAnns...So coupons in hand, look out...I've decided to make Kathy and Tim an Irish chain.....

As for our dinner, gee, who can think of food when you're excited about fabric????But, if I plan my trip the right way, I'll be making my way back home close to dinner time and the car just might have to stop and pick up something....I made sure we got that "stop" option on this car......

Happy eating..............

Good Evening All......yet another nice and sunny day in my little part of the planet.......

was beginning to think I may have to stay in bed tomorrow.....I have fallen into a Fruit and Veg stall(war wounds to prove).....I have cocked up the paper shredder(but is now working again)and lost an augment with my Dyson resulting in all the fluff and dust back on the carpet(but is now in the dustbin....fluff etc....not the Dyson)however......I have cut 2 baby flannel quilts and pieced one.....so maybe things are on the up....and no more downs in my future....well for a while at least.....and I thought I was having a quiet week......

our menu for today......the other half of yesterdays Beef Pie....Creamed Potatoes and Peas......and a slice of Victoria Sponge with Blackcurrant Jam and Cream filling....mm mm that was good even if I say so myself...for afters.....might go back for seconds.....

Chickie.....our Tomatoes are cropping heavily this year.....nearly walking out the Greenhouse......but our Runner Beans are non existent......not one flower on the plants....so they will be going on the compost heap this week end

MaryZ—we had something like 30 tomato plants—some I bought and some from the Amish auction. I canned 9 pints of SPICY salsa, but I’m eating the rest of them for now. DH doesn’t like tomatoes other than maybe a slice on a burger or a few bites in a salad. He doesn’t like chili with tomato sauce, any Italian red sauce, salsa, pizza with sauce (just a trace)… It’s pointless to put up much here. DD came by last evening for just a few seconds. She went home with 5 or 6 cantaloupes, a watermelon, 2 jars of salsa and a bunch of tomatoes. She’s also the tomato eater in her family, but the kids love the melons.

Does your Swiss steak have a tomato sauce? It would be a no-go in this house. Sigh! I love it! The acid in the tomatoes will tenderize the steak, too. MIL used to put a bit of Liquid Smoke in her green beans in addition to bacon and onions. I do the bacon and onions—always have, or ham if I had it.

Jana—Mary had a great idea on how you could have gotten the side-by-side! Think Christmas for him now. He would be surprised at how he would like it.

Carol—sounds like you have been busy both in and out of trouble, plus you have been productive with the quilts. Your menu sounds delicious! Sorry about your runner beans. I didn’t grow any. Our son gave us some earlier. I think he probably canned a bunch. I eat tomatoes for breakfast and dinner.

Becca—we could sure use some more rain! Sorry about your tomatoes!

Irish—Have fun shopping… hope you get some great finds for your coupons. Take-out is always a great option for dinner. I wish we had more selection than pizza or Chinese in town.

I’m going for pulled pork or burgers tonight along with tomatoes and watermelon. I might do some potatoes with them—new potatoes sautéed in a bit of butter. Nothing fancy. I want to try to get in a bit of sewing this afternoon. We went to town to get DH’s car, but it wasn’t ready. We dropped off a watermelon and a couple of cantaloupes to my sister and BIL. They will share with Mom.
