Maple Leaf Wedding Quilt

Post by dsf618 » Tue May 06, 2014 4:22 pm

After I married Bernie, you gals showered us with FQs. Now that I know how to do pictures, here is the quilt top I made out of them. The backing is the leftover pieces from the FQs. I need suggestions on how to quilt this though. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much for posting these pictures. I have thought about the quilt you hoped to make from the red FQ's we all sent, and now we can see it!
It is a wonderful quilt.
I think if I was going to quilt it I would find or draw a large enough design to cover each large leaf block. Then either do the same design in each block or decide on another design and do alternating blocks. Good luck on the quilting.......Joan

Deb, what a great memory quilt..how ever you quilt it it is sure to be treasured because of the love and prayers that went into it... just beautiful.

Such a special, beautiful quilt! you did a very nice job on it! How do you plan to quilt it? On your machine? by hand? longarm? There is a quilting pantograph called Maple Syrup that is edge to edge and not too 'busy' that would look very nice. You can see it by simply Googling it, adding 'quilting pattern'. It's maple leaves with a bit of a swirl in them to give the appearance of a breeze. However you do it, it will be beautiful!

I only quilt by hand - I can't for the life of me figure out how to get all this fabric under my machine!

WoW, that's a nice quilt. I don't much quilt (send mine to TeresaK) but I am wondering is some kind of an overall leaf pattern or is that too much leaf?

Maple leaf is insignia for Canadians.. It is on our flag, hockey team: Toronto maple leaf, and tree is associated to the sweet maple tree sap..

Is there a Canadian connection to the quilt?

Well kinda sorta - Bernie picked out the pattern - he wanted something "old". Red and White are the colors of Poland and our wedding colors. We love the 1000 Islands and spent a lot of time there so yes, there is a Canada connection to a degree.

We had two weddings - the first was August 4, 2012. We had the big dress, huge reception, family and friends. But because of Bernie's cancer he was on Medicaid. If we were to file a marriage license he would have lost the insurance coverage. So as far as everyone knew I was Deb Kisly in every way except legally.

Then August 31, 2013 Medicaid threw him off the program because he had a pension, mind you, that he could not touch til he was 65. So Bernie decided we should become legal make me truly Deb Kisly. We were legally married at the Riveredge Hotel gazebo in front of a Justice of the Peace with just him and me, the hotel dining room manager and a waitress. We then partied.

So, yes there is a Canada connection!
