I will pop in early today to say "hello". Tried that yesterday and must have lost my whole post. I came back in the evening last night to catch up and my post was not there. These computers do strange things sometimes.

I just started with the Elm Creek books. There is quite a long list to keep me busy reading for a long while. I don't read all the time, but love to get into a book during our travels. Since I now have a kindle, it makes reading on the road so much easier. I never would have purchased a kindle for myself, but our son sent me one for Christmas. What a neat gift. I love it.

Once I am busy working on a quilt, I can't break away from quilting to get into reading. LOL

Good luck with treatments and hope your work day goes well for those off to work. Enjoy whatever your day brings. Hope a peek of sunshine will brighten your day.

Hugs

Good morning Ladies,

Stormy , blustery day here. Got the morning chores of feeding done before the worst of the rain hit, thank goodness. Looks like today will be a sewing day for me..

Suzette. Thoughts are with you and DH as he starts treatments.

Chrissy1. Prayers for your Torrie that she finds the strength to continue her path. Hope you enjoy the sights of NC.

Sue. Pecan coffee and slice of pie sounds yummy......may I have ice cream with mine?

FarmChick. Sounds like your cold weather is headed my way. I find I'm enjoying walking, hope I can keep it up until it becomes routine. Trying to improve my health and yes, I used to take the RTV everywhere.

Maryz. The time I get to spend with my animals is sweet. I've been taking that aspect of my life for granted, seeing the work involved instead of the joy they give. Now as I contemplate trying to work after so any years off.....I know I will miss this time. Yes, I run barrels, will try to post a photo one day, been doing this all my life........

Womster. The we I refer to most often is my niece. She moved in 3 years ago when her 16 year old son decided he wanted to live with Dad,who he hasn't lived with sincehe was 2. DN was living with her Dad(my brother) to care for him after several cancer surgeries. Brother is fine and with no jobs available there, she came here. She is lots of help to me and as there is not a huge age difference, we are more like sisters.

Velda. I'm like you with reading, once I start a book, I do not want to put it down. Other things seem to never get done when I start a book, much less a series.

Izzy. Have a good day, glad to hear the DH play went well......is gonna be a wet one when you get home, take care.

Hellos to everyone that follows, hope your day lives up to your expectations.

Joyce

Lois - can't wait to see what you do with the birdhouses. They are so cute.

Suz - I hope the treatments don't make your DH feel too bad. We had a pretty quiet day yesterday, too.

Judi - Cobbled Court sounds like a good book. Maybe I'll get it on my Nook. I havent' read in such a long time. Sorry about your blustery and cold weather.

Izzy - good book series can sure be addicting. When I get into a good one I don't do anything but read. I even read while cooking dinner - LOL.

Becca - oh gosh, I'm glad you killed that Copperhead instead of the other way around! ~~~shiver~~~

Kathy - are you going to do your own backsplash?

Sue - the wind has blown away all our Azalea blooms. I just hate it when that happens. We don't have them blooming very long as it is. Why do you hate Mondays? Is it a throwback to your working girl days?

Maryq - have a wonderful start to your work week.

Kathy2 - need any help spending that gift certificate??? I'll be glad to help.

Chriss - IMHO I think it's a shame that going to a ball game is so expensive. The steep prices keep so many people away. The 'All American Game' is now only for the elite.

Velda - I haven't been keeping up. Are y'all in IL at your permanent summer place or are you still travelling?

I'm at work and it took a miracle to get here. My hip is so bad today that DH had to put my socks and tennis shoes on me and I had to use the grabber to get my undies and pants on. I'm calling the orthopedic today - I can't stand this. It's depressing. If this is what the rest of my life is going to be like just take me out back and shoot me right now. I'm use to going and doing. We had a quiet weekend. I did very little. Got a couple loads of laundry done and worked a bit on my applique. I just didn't feel up to standing at my cutting table and cutting strips and sewing and going from machine to ironing board. I made chicken & dumpling casserole yesterday so dinner is basically done for the next couple of nights - just have to fix a veggie. I'd better get busy here.

I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Good morning :-) getting ready, little nervous but will be ok :-) I'll be thinking of you all and playing with quilt blocks in my head to ease my mind.
I hope you all have a wonderful day! Prayers for those in need.

Happy Monday!

LOIS - In my book, a full day of work ALWAYS calls for a relaxing evening filled with nothing! Enjoy! How does your foot like working full days? What blocks are you making for in between the birdhouses? Tina's brilliant, is she not?

SUZETTE - Prayers for your hubby. our friend Lois had chemo for 9 months and was never sick a single moment. She did lose her hair, but it came back in again thicker, softer, and more luxurious than ever. We were at DD #1's for dinner last night and my 17 yo grandson was wearing a shirt with the Batman bat signal on it. I thought of you immediately and wondered how your apron was going.

JUDI - what wild weather you are having! We were 70 and sunny yesterday and even nicer today, I think. after that, back to some rain. Another very good author of quilt books is Arlene Sachitano (SP?). She writes mysteries and quilts figure heavily into her stories. I like her much better than Chevarinni.

IZZY - I've never read the paper version of the Elm Creek books, but I've listened to many of them in audio form while I sew/garden/clean/drive/etc. That's my 'reading' time.

BECCA - I know we have deer and bear in our area, but they are clearing most of their habitat to build giant homes so I think the wildlife are moving out. Sad to see.

SHARONA - I hope they don't get your rhubarb, too. But aren't rhubarb leaves poisonous? Animals seem to know what they shouldn't eat, so maybe they will leave your rhubarb alone . . .

KATHY - you are such a good gramma! The little ones will LOVE getting your goodies in the mail! Are the teddies for a special occasional or just to send? I really miss having little ones to 'do' for.

SUE - I'm hoping we'll be able to see the blood moon, too. But that will mean having to stay awake, probably. I can barely stay awake for a half-hour TV show! How come YOU hate Mondays?? You're retired!!

MARY Q - TP & coffee & Coffeemate (the plain, powdered, not-good-for-you kind). The essentials of life! We buy them all at Costco and I go into a panic if we're down to our last's month's supply! lol!! Have a super day!

KATHY TWO - sorry about the snow - but enjoy the quilt shop. I have 2 gift certificates to our quilt shop that I got for my birthday. Just AFTER I spent $80 there! lol!! And like I mentioned before, if you want a good mystery quilt series, try Arlene Sachitano. She has several books in her quilty series and they are very well written.

CHRISS - sorry your game day was so expensive. But someone has to pay those millionaire salaries! I'd like to give my son Mariners tickets for his birthday (May 27) but even the cheap seats go beyond our gift limit. A book sale on Easter Sunday? I think someone forgot to check the calendar when they were setting the date. Are you going? Our library stopped having it's semi-annual book sales. Now they sell their used books on turn around racks in the lobby all the time. and they quadrupled their prices because they found shop-owners would pay their inflated prices. I'm sure all the R/W Swap blocks will come in. You have a good group of swappers!

VELDA - kindles are great for RV living and my DH is blind in one eye and reading is difficult for him unless it's large print. He downloads library books and reads them on the i-pad. I prefer my paper page books. I love books around me and have stacks of them in every room in the house. Bill even built a bookshelf for paperbacks in our fifth-wheel and it runs under the cabinets that go over the bed. I love the homey look of books.

JOYCE - You life sounds so nice! I love my nieces, too. I have 17 and DH has 5. I was only 9 yo when the first one was born. I have an ex-SisIL who used to barrel race. I've lost track of her though and don't know if she even still has horses.

CINDY - sorry about your azaleas and your hip. Glad you're calling the orthopod. When you need a grabber to put on your undies, it's time. When you can't work on your quilting, it's definitely time!

TINA - will be with your in spirit today. How nice for us to be part of your 'happy place'. We'll be waiting anxiously for a report. God bless.

Yesterday I cleaned the whole house (sort of), sewed a quilt backing, did 8 loads of wash, stripped and remade the bed (not ready to let those flannel sheets go yet, though), and helped DH all day as we finished rebuilding our RV shelter that collapsed under snow, rain this winter. We were beat by 3pm. Then we went to Dd's for supper where 16 yo DGS cooked supper using all his own recipes. He goes to culinary school in the mornings and regular high school in the afternoons. Pulled BBQ pork sandwiches, homemade potato chips, veggie and fruit trays, and lava cake for dessert. YUM!!

And they gave me a belated birthday gift. When I saw the package I quipped, "A Monopoly Game!". My SIL smiled, and suddenly I knew I was almost right. It was a Quiltopoloy game! I love games of all kinds. This is so cute! The markers are iron, sewing machine, rotary cutter, seam ripper, tape measure, and one other quilty thing. Chance cards are 'Fabric Stash' cards. it is soo cute!! I can't wait to play it! I know Chriss will play with me. She loves to play Monopoly with me.

Today, I will get out in the yard. I promise. If I don't get distracted making blue & white blocks for the new swap . . .

Enjoy your day. It will never be here again!

Good morning from cold and windy Kansas. It’s depressing to see all the apple trees in bud/bloom and know it’s going to be 27 tonight. I will stay inside today and start cutting attic window sashing for the birdhouse quilt. I ordered a backing for it yesterday that will be perfect.

Cindy—you poor thing! I hope you are able to get some relief SOON!

Tina—wishing you all the best today!!!

Joyce—I enjoy walking, too. It’s just that when it’s so windy you can’t stand up, it’s not fun… although, it is good exercise. It feels like water walking in a pool.

Kathy2—I could help you spend that gift certificate! Just ask MaryZ what a good “finder” I am!

Sue—I hear you with the crummy weather! On the Country Threads blog, she said a fabric salesman told her fabric was going to $12 a yard. I need to check the big shirts when I go to my DD’s and the SA. If all the quilters go to the thrift stores, there won’t be any shirts! I used to have beautiful scraps from shirt factories—several women had worked in the factories and brought home the scraps. Mom and I used a lot of them. I don’t think we’ll see the moon here… too cloudy. Of course, it could clear off and get really cold and ugly for the plants.

Judi—That’s too bad about the cancellation and unconscionable with no explanation/re-scheduling offer. It does leave a bad taste. I’ll have to check out the Marie Bostwick books.

Suzette—hope it all goes well for your DH today!

Kathy—I’ll be looking for the package overhead! I know your grands will love the contents!

Chriss—major league sports are sure not the pastime of the working people any more. I think the minor leagues would be way more fun (and cheaper). The book sale is probably scheduled by third week in April and Easter is coincidental.

Izzy—enjoy your day!

MaryQ—sorry about the jolt back to reality!

Becca—I vote for staying in and sewing!

Velda—My DDIL’s mom RVs full time, and she got a Kindle and loves it. I have one but don’t have any books on it yet.

Lois—I love the idea of the two throws. Can’t wait to see yours. Mine will be just the one from the birdhouses for my DD. Maybe I’ll do two from some of the other swaps I don’t have put together yet…

MaryZ—more books to read! Your new game sounds delightful! I would play with you! I need a DGS like yours to cook for me! We are having breakfast here for everyone after Easter mass.

I need to find my face in the jars, get more coffee and put on all the lights in my sewing room so I can see to cut sashing. It’s so dark and gloomy here today. OMG! It is SNOWING outside! This is crazy!!! It looks like all the down pillows in the world just exploded. I hope the little humming bird I saw yesterday and the day before is staying warm someplace…

Enjoy today!

Good morning!

Lois – I also love Tina’s idea of two quilts. What kind of blocks are you making for in-between?

Suzette – best wishes to your DH for his treatment. Did they find a way to help him with the pain? Good idea to take some hand work with you.

Judi – thanks for the author names – I need to get to reading again. That is a strange way to treat fans – I can certainly understand the bad taste. Hope your power stays on during the windstorm and the white stuff stays away.

Izzy – I am like you. I read Shogun in one weekend – never put it down and stayed up till all hours.

Becca – you are a brave one to garden! My DGM grew up in Copperhead Holler in MO and hated snakes with a passion. She would garden with a 45 and shoot any snake (or snake look-alike) she saw. I hope the deer don’t notice your garden. Out here, people fence their gardens in with 8’ fences. Have fun working on the baby quilt and rest your back!

Kathy – I’m with Cindyg – send me some of those treats and I’ll let you know how they arrived. YUM! Did you find someone to install the backsplash? Picking out tile will be so fun.

Sue – what kind of quilt are you making? Does it contain only shirt fabric? We’re not sure if we’ll be able to see the eclipse or not – I hope so!

Maryq – glad you got all your stuff done. I agree with you on the importance of those two items - I get them in Costco-sized packages so I have enough to last a couple of months if we can’t get back to the store.

Kathy2 – have a grand time at the quilt store. Just let me know if you need any help spending your $$. I don’t blame you a bit for waiting for nicer weather.

Chriss – isn’t it awful how much it costs to go to games? DH used to have season tickets to the Broncos and the Avs. We were lucky enough to attend game 7 when they won the Stanley Cup, and that was the last time we attended any professional sport. Too darned expensive! And they keep raising ticket prices to where only corporations can afford to purchase them… ok I’ll get off my soap box now. I’m glad y’all had fun. Are you going to the book fair?

Velda - what a neat gift for your son to send. We download things on our IPad, but I can’t read it for too long because it gets too heavy. I’ve also had posts go into cyber space – so annoying. Glad to see you today!

Joyce – your niece sounds like a remarkable woman. I envy your time on the farm with all the animals. You can have my ice cream on the pie. When do you have to go back to a 9-5 job? Enjoy your sewing day.

Cindyg – I am so sorry that you are in such pain. Arthritis really sucks. I hope the doc has some suggestions for you. I found a recipe for that casserole you mentioned and it does look delicious. I have to make a banana cake today for DH. I found an interesting recipe where you bake it at 275 for 1.5 hours and then freeze it for 75 minutes. Most of the comments raved on how good it was. We shall see. Stupid arthritis.

Tina – prayers for you today.

Maryz – how did you even stay awake for your dinner last night? I would have needed to take a nap. It is interesting to have a book sale on Easter – but out here we’re having our ‘pot day’ on Easter. Isn’t that so special? Too bad it wasn’t this past weekend – they’d have been snowed under. I love the idea of Quiltopoly! Where in the world did they find that kind of game. How many more days of yard work do you have?

Miriam – stupid snow! I hope your little hummer is tucked away somewhere safe and warm. Are you cooking everything for the meal after mass? Are y’all meeting in that clubhouse place, or is it just a few this time?

Today we’re supposed to have two security doors installed, but with all this snow I doubt very much he’ll show up. It does like beautiful out – the evergreens pointing up towards a deep blue sky with the white snow hugging the ground, but I am done with winter so no more snow! Even as I type this, I’m being told we’re getting more snow on Wednesday. Oh well – it won’t last long. DH is sick with a cold, so we all know what that means. Have a great day! xoxo Sharona

Sharona--I'll do all the cooking, and breakfast/brunch will be here. One of the DDILs is bringing fruit. We won't have as many as usual, as one DDIL will be working, and my DD and family have his family's dinner. We should have less than 15. I haven't heard if DH's sister will be coming yet. We are really tired of winter here, too. DH is even tired of the wind, as am I. I thought it only blew like this in western KS, not my corner. I've seen snow in April, but it's been a long time! Stay in and stay safe!

Good morning quilty folks.

Tina, prayers sent up for you today.

Suzette, prayers for your DH today.

Cindyg, I sure hope you get some relief for your hip soon. I know it's not funny, but I have a picture of you in my mind trying to get into your undies with your grabber! LOL

We had such a lovely weekend...hope to have another day or two of nice weather. I am so sorry that some of you are still having snow...just doesn't seen right!

Well, I am at work right now, so I best get to it. I hope you all have a spectacular day.

Hugs and prayers,
Mel

Lunch time. Oh my you all are busy. I do hope this rain stops so when I get home I can feed, milk and such without getting soaked or fighting goats in a barn LOL

Cidnyg if I read and cooked it would burn for sure LOL

OK GOTTA VENT: Went to get my large sack of pillows from our meeting building that we made for NH--THEY ARE GONE!!! I am so upset, no one knows where they are. We dont know if someone stole them HOPEFULLY not or if they threw them away. OH MY. All those beautiful blocks GONE. I didnt want to leave them but one of the ladies said they would be fine we always leave other projects in that room. Well she also says to me Sunday "Guess God wanted you to go another route". That just hit me so rudely and she said it like "Oh Well" manner. So I have brought all my stuff home from there; it just broke my heart. I am back to square one with pillows for 20 rooms. I have the valances and lapquilts done. Terrible that this would happen. My DH has tried to console me but its just frustrating that No one but me has an issue with it. I prayed for the LORD to heal my hurt but man its tough.

Ok I am done crying on your shoulders. It still hurts to know someone took or got rid of them:(

I am hoping tonight to finish the last 4 r/w blocks and get them in mail by end of week. I need to lay my 12.5 ruler on each to make sure they are all right size. I read notes of some not measuring up and that scared me cause I have not measured any since start AHHH.

I am trying to think of a block for b/w swap. I really want to incorporate hexi somehow LOL we shall see. Maybe I will just design my own LOL in all my spare time hee heee haa haa someone pick me up:)

Kids done now testing and a parent meeting this afternoon then its a wrap:))

Take care have fun sewing all. I hear ya Chickie on weather. I told my DH wind dried my eyeballs saturday was blowing so hard. 27 here on Tues night. My poor orchard. Gonna cover my blueberry bushes they are in full bloom. Dogwood winter for sure. They just started blooming here. Next black berry winter. Then Linen britches and finally summer will be here:))

God Bless
