Re: Tuesday, January 28th, 2014
Good Sunny morning....
My sister & I saw American Hustle. It was long & slow but I do remember the scam it was based on. Six or 7 congressman & senators were arrested for taking bribes 1979. Came home to no heat had to push the restart twice but it came. I dreamed of frozen bursting pipes.
The nicest thing happened yesterday. With the free shipping at qiad I ordered the Log Cabin book but I accidentally ordered it with the dvd. So I reordered what I really wanted & planned to send back the other back. Well Jennifer called to ask if I realized what I'd done. She credited my card & now I'll only get one. Wasn't that nice....they take good care of us. Thanks Jennifer!
I just heard the folk singer Pete Seeger died at 94!! I was walking around a park in Boston in 1969 & there he was singing with his banjo to a small group. I had forgotten that.
Teresa......welcome back. How exciting babies & quilts. I can't wait to see pictures of Aria Jane. I'll always be a traditional quilter too.
Mell.....Hope you slept well.
Suzette.....Love & prayers for treatment. When my DD1 started her treatments it struck us odd that the word 'treat' was in it.
Lois.....I just know you'll love your grill. I wore out a G Foreman grill. Should I get another?
scrap48.....I love seeing you here each morning. I think we have some childhood sweethearts here. My 2 DDs live in NY & Texas. Work can take family far away.
Sooz.....sorry about that coffee. I think we're paying for the warm spell we had.
Dolores.....You sure do have to be persistent to get anything done with the medical world. Good for you. After that he should take you to Lancaster. I just found out my new quilt guild has a bus to the Vt show....I'm going!!!!
I'm off to shower.
Love & Prayers to all in need.......Kathy

Good Morning Girls
Broken record here.. more of the same frigid cold today. Schools are closed again! Supposed to warm up to 28 above tomorrow! There is hope I guess that spring will come!
Chriss.... any hints on the block for your R & W swap! I have 3 working sewing machines in the house I could get them all running at the same time! Oh wait, I only have 2 feet! Am thinking I'll get my bird houses done this weekend, so I'll be READY!
Teresa... Welcome Back! Glad to hear you had a great time on your R2C and with that baby! Am looking forward to seeing pictures of you and the baby and your Feb Lotto Block. I've printed out the directions and will give it a try this weekend too!
Sooz... I hate when that happens.. spilling a whole cup of coffee!! What a mess! I've done it several times! Good thing I make a full pot of coffee every morning. Hope you can catch up on lost sleep!
Judi...I have a quilt like that old one of yours.. actually Jen has it AK. She won't let it go! It's in pieces practically. The story of it is it was a wedding gift to my Grandmother in 1918 or so. I'd kind of like to take it, cut out the good parts of it and frame it! But it's Jen favorite blankie! How fast can you load that camper! I can pack a suitcase and be ready by Friday!
Dolores...I bet it is scary for your DH to have surgery in his good eye. My Mom was blind in her left from aneurism surgery she had in 1980, so she was very nervous too. It all worked out fine for her tho. I'm scheduled to have cataract surgery sometime this summer too! I hope it improves my vision!! The print keeps getting smaller and smaller!
Becca.... sounds like a good day to stay inside and sew! If I didn't have to go to work, that's what I'd be doing!
Kathy... Where in Vermont is the quilt show? How fun to be able to hop a bus and GO! Glad your furnace it working after all so you won't freeze your nose or pipes!
Lois... I'm anxious to hear how you like your grill! Might have to invest in one myself.. maybe I'd actually COOK!
Mel... hope you are having a good day at work! Foggy this morning?
Suzette... Saw horses and plywood sounds like a grand idea for pinning a quilt! At least you'd be inside where it's a little warmer.
Guess I better get moving here, want to leave a little early for work and stop at WM for a few things on my way... something for lunch and a few supplies.
Wishing you all a most wonderful day!
ps.. Has anybody heard from ScrappyPat? I'm wondering how she is doing... think of her so often and nightly in my prayers

Hope you all are staying warm. Temp is 41 here and wind blowing. I can handle the temp. I can handle the wind, though I don't like it. What I can't handle is the humidity with that wind. It just frosts me!
I would appreciate prayers for my neighbor, Bill, today he is having back surgery.
I will be working on my birdhouses and going to beading group.
Prayers are sent up for all of you fine people.
Hug some fabric,
Lyn

Good morning from the frozen prairie! When the wind quieted, the pond froze again. We worked at the rental yesterday and got quite a bit accomplished. I’m not sure when we will finish. What a mess!
It’s 10 degrees and feels every bit of it. Odie and Tinker Bell accompanied me to DS3’s to let their dogs out for their morning constitutionals and dish up food and fresh water. At least it is sunny and the wind has died down. Last night when we went… BRRRRR! I was happy to get home to hot coffee.
Becca—your pattern is beautiful! I will look forward to seeing photos… love scrappy quilts!
Mel—it’s so odd when the fog doesn’t burn off early here. I need to see the sun.
Suz—Best wishes for a good day! Sounds like your treatments are going well.
Lois—Do you have the steaks ready for the grill when it arrives? Enjoy!
Scrap48—your provinces are huge. My state is approximately 200 x 400 miles. I would call it “medium sized”. My area is rural—lots of crop farming and cattle pastures. We have ponds on our property and a federal lake (man-made) next to us.
Sooz—I hate days like that! Thankfully your computers are safe! I’m usually not so lucky. My middle name is Klutz. We enjoy your company and your posts! I can’t function any more without sleep… lots of it!
Dolores—best wishes to your DH and his eye appointment! Vision is nothing to leave to chance, especially with a diabetic. I definitely think you should get to to go Lancaster! When I help DH on the rentals, I have to do a little retail therapy (quilt fabrics). Good luck!
Chriss—you would want to return the cold to me before a full day. Yesterday was brutal. I’m still trying to get the embroidery finished on my blocks.
Judi—I love quilts that tell a story of family love and use. We had picnics on quilts inside in front of the fireplace in winter.
Kathy—I heard about Pete Seeger earlier on NPR when I was out. How neat that you saw him in person. I always enjoyed seeing him on the PBS specials in recent years.
Teresa—looking forward to your photos! That’s why women aren’t in photos—they are usually the ones taking them! I wish I could do art quilts, but I do enjoy the traditional blocks best. Sigh! Sew little time, and my bucket list is growing daily.
Lyn—have a good day! Best wishes to your neighbor.
MaryQ—I’ve heard of your temperatures and the records. Good luck with having a thaw! I need to clone myself so I can sew at all my machines, too. Let me know if it works!
O’Dorothy—Sure hope you feel better soon! I know how much you enjoy Florida!
MaryZ—good luck to Bill! What a savings on his crown! Have fun hanging with friends!
Time for me to get busy here. Enjoy today!

Good morning!
Oh how I wish I had some of your cold temps - no I am not out of my mind - my freezer broke this morning and I need a place to keep all the frozen stuff inside of it. Right now we are using a window well on the north side of the house - it is only 21 out there and that should hold it for a short time - I will probably lose the ice cream, but we really don't need that around here! LOL We have several gallon milk jugs that are filled with frozen water that will help as well. DH called the repair in yesterday and the guy will be here today - we were hoping that it would stay cold enough until he got here - but no - the freezer had other ideas!
Today is my Activity Girls - they are coming here and we are starting a BOM for them. Today I will teach a simple 9 patch and then turn it into a tossed 9 block with them. Next month we will do a Ohio Star. Most of the girls already know how to sew, great for me! For being only 11, they are pretty good.
We got Sarah's top done and it is loaded on Robin. She is about 1/2 done with how she wants it quilted. Mine is still in pieces, but just about ready for the final assembly - which doesn't take long. But I will be cutting scraps up today for the girls - I am putting them in bags and they will just do scrappy. When I do projects with my girls, the Church asks us not to charge them for the projects, so that if any girl can't afford, she will not be left out. That is why I am using up my scraps for this project. They are really looking forward to making a quilt.
Well the repair guy is on the phone with DH - hopefully he will be here soon! OK, 1 - 4 this afternoon - rats! Oh well we will wait.
Time to feed a hungry DH -
Do something fun!
Hugs
Jana

Re: Tuesday, January 28th, 2014
Teresa - I'm glad you had fun at R2C. I like to look at art quilts but have not made one. I'm just not that talented. You didn't mention anything about vendors - were there some and did you shop?
Mel - I hope your carcass slept well.
Suz - sorry you have to do the work and treatment thing for a while. When you have to do something like that it makes one appreciate the boring same old same old that your life was before.
Lois - sounds like a cool grill. Will it smoke up the house? We were waiting for a package, too, and it came yesterday. My DH ordered a little red campfire which is a fake campfire. You use the propane to fuel it and the logs are ceramic. It looks and feels like a real campfire but it doesn't produce sparks and ashes so we can use it even it there is a burn ban on at the lake.
Scrap - I guess I've always been modern as I've never stayed home to be a housewife and stay-at-home mom. I think I would die if I stayed home.
Sooz - sorry you have to go to a training class but I'm sure your patients and their families appreciate it. Last night I made homemade veggie beef soup so we'll have that the next couple of nights. Chicken soup sounds good though.
Dolores - sorry to hear of your DH's eye problems. I hope they find they can do the cataract surgery. I've had that surgery in both eyes and had no problem. I can see where it would be worrisome for your DH since he has only the one good eye but if you give that cataract enough time it will blind him in that eye, too. I so hope you can go to Lancaster.
Chriss - oh, gosh, it's a good thing I didn't marry my high school sweetheart - I'd be a Baptist preacher's wife! I'm just not preacher wife material - LOL. I bet you will welcome Thursday with open arms. You'll do great at both interviews.
Becca - you aren't the only one that can't remember. I can't remember exactly who needs a prayer sometimes but I know what the prayer should be about. I drive myself crazy because I can't remember.
Judi - oh, gosh, Ken wants to leave for FL today? When will you start packing? I noticed that you chose to ignore Ken and went to sew instead - LOL
Kathy - I'm not surprised that your order was straightened out quickly at QIAD. They are good about that.
Maryq - the cataract surgery will definitely improve your vision and, if they do one eye at a time, you will be able to see the difference in colors by holding your hand over one eye and then the other. It's amazing! You probably won't need glasses for driving, TV, etc. but you will need cheaters for up close stuff like reading, sewing, etc.
Lyn - sorry you are having cold w/humidity. People poo-poo that humidity stuff but it's true - cold with humidity feels much colder than dry cold. Heat's the same way. Until you have lived in humidity you will never understand. LOL I guess you won't be fishing today - LOL LOL.
Farm Chick - I hope you are finished with the rental for the time being.
Sherry - so sorry about your Granddog. We sure get attached to those furry creatures.
I'm at work - I managed to get here without skidding on ice. It's suppose to get a little warmer by this afternoon. I hope so as I don't want to drive home on ice. I finished the applique on the final block of my floral Log Cabin. I decided to embroider an outline stitch around all the flowers and I started that last night. I'll do a little more and decide then if I like the outline or if I'll be ripping it out. Gotta run. Tons to do here.
I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Good morning, good morning,
It was a lovely -3 degrees this morning, but I believe we are up to 3 degrees now. Yesterday they closed the schools for 18 degrees, today they are open.
Sorry to hear so many are under the weather. Lots of nasty bugs going around.
Not much going on here, just the daily stuff. Stay warm everyone,
Karlene

Good morning!
Weather forecast says 80 degrees today and tomorrow and rain rest of the week...we'll see.
I've been missing in action due to studying for continuing education to renew my Real Estate license. I'm renewing to help DS out and hoping to pay off credit cards. This will be my 34th year and son's fifth year. The technology is daunting but my son can handle it and with my gift of gab, no problem, we make a super team!
Babysitting duties have also cut into my free time. I'm just itching to finish some ufo's and maybe start some embroidery projects. Easter is coming and I've seen so many cute lil bunnies and Easter eggs I'd like to stitch up.
Sooz, welcome to the group. I admire the hospice profession so much.
To all those who are feeling poorly, rest up!
Today DH has a haircut appt. at the senior center and I get to study...first things first!!! Tomorrow I get to take a break and go to my embroidery class.
Well y'all I hate to leave you but must get breakfast and do some uglies before I hit the books.
Love, Lucie

Good morning all. Just a quick pop in to say hello from very cold (-12 degrees. WC -29 degrees) NW Ohio. Want to thank all of you for your thoughts about my Grand Doggy's death. It is amazing how we love our animals. They are all members of our families. I always told my sons that the dogs never gave me half the trouble you guys did. LOL
Judi - If I thought I could get away with it I would meet you over on I-75 when you go to Florida. I will be the one with the suitcase by the said of the road near Bowling Green. LOL
Chriss - I keep saying that I won't buy any more magazines or pattern books, but it doesn't work. It is a sickness with me.
Cindyg - Sorry about the cold weather. You and my DS will have to get out the coats. Just get rid of it before I come down in May please.
Well, better go and finish my coffee. Prayers for all especially that the cold goes away soon.
Sherry
