hand stitching bindings

Post by rosebud3 » Tue Dec 10, 2013 12:07 am

Good morning everyone. I am hand stitching a binding down on a quilt for the first time and would like your opinions on what the best stitch or technique to use is. Thanks

hi MaryRose...

I use a blind hem stitch.. you can't see it and it holds wonderfully.

I also use the blind hem stitch but match the thread to your binding. It will also help hide stitch, and go into the fold of your binding.

I use a small slip stitch, matching thread to binding. Is a slip stitch the same as a blind hem? I also use only a few clips - maybe 3 or 4 - that are like hair barrettes. Then I just move them along as I progress.

I use the blind hem stitch with matching thread and only one strand. I use Aurifil 50 wt. thread if I have it in a matching color. My stitches are no more than 1/8" apart. I'm probably a little late with this. Oh, I glue baste and press the binding down to dry the glue using Roxanne or Elmer's wash out glue so I don't have to use any clips or pins when hand stitching my binding. Sharon Shamber has a youtube video of this method.
