TERESA - such happy news about the kids for Christmas! I will say a prayer than no obstacles to the plan arise. Could you hose the mud off your bushes?

DELORES - is your wind from a big storm, or is it just windy there? Do you normally get a lot of wind?

LOIS - you've got a keeper for sure in your DH. So, are you balanced on crutches when you work in the kitchen?

TINA - so happy to hear that Jaz is doing better. Hope you can get some sleep now.

SUZ - we have Cedar Cove on the DVR and will get around to it one of these days. Our company isn't interested in watching it but they may have to just sit through it anyway! lol! If you run out of stuff to clean, but are still feeling the urge, may I suggest you pay me a visit . . .

VELDA - looks like you are closing out your fishing season with a bang! Is there no fishing in TX? Or is the problem getting the boat there while towing a fiver? Enjoy your visit to the kids and the fall party!

LUCIE - happy birthday to "Son"! (Loved that story!) Today is my grandson's birthday, too. He's Drew an is 20 yrs old today. Seems like I was just 20 myself! What a bargain you got in all those books! I enjoy James Pattersons' books, too, and usually listen to them on tape while I sew.

CHRISS - if you're holed up in the house while "Elmer Fudd" is out hunting skunks, you can SEW, girl!! And happy birthday to Gramma. She needs an alarm clock? What for? Did you get her a job for her birthday and now she has to get up and go to work?

KATHY - I was the one who asked you what quilt you were making. Though Chriss may have asked, too. But I was FIRST! It sounds pretty. Kind of like a hole in the wall type pattern. Hope you make lots of progress on it today.

SHARONA - glad you are settling into your new digs. Especially glad Guido is getting along OK now!! How far will your outbuilding be from the house? I don't think I'd like my sewing so far away. I need my toys close at hand! I go into withdrawals. I'm with you on the fish thing!!

Today is DGS's 20th birthday. Where do the years go? He's spending the day with friends. The family celebration was last Fri and very last minute, so we couldn't go. But we have a gift - silverware. His mom said he's starting to talk about wanting to move out on his own and he needs household stuff.

We are scrambling for ideas for things to do with our friends. Today we're going to a nearby park and walk the beach. Yesterday we went to Costco and later taught them a card game. Tuesday we might go to the movies. We're trying to find one small activity a day. We also need some time to do some uglies, laundry, mowing, vacuuming, etc. Tonite for dinner I think I'll make a homemade pizza and salad.

I did get to fondle some fabric strips yesterday, did a little cutting, and sewed about five 6" seams! it felt so good!

Hope your Sunday involved a little fabric dust, too!

Good Morning Girls

Happy Sunday to you all this morning! The sun is shining, nary a cloud in the sky and yesterday's wind has died down! Maybe today I can get out and mow. I had big plans to trim shrubs yesterday too with electric hedge trimmer, but some little gremlin has been in my garage and walked off with my industrial extension cord--probably a good thing tho as I don't think it would have been a good idea to use an electric trimmer in the rain!

Spent a little time in the sewing room yesterday, started my SS project, got a quilt top pinned that's been in my closet for at least 3 years, and did a test on another Miss Quilt Tut. Gotta quit watching those as I never get anything done, but have a lot of little "tests" started. If you check out the Window Pane Tut at MSQ, that's the one I am working on.

Teresa.... Oh Gosh how wonderful that your kids are coming home! I bet you are over the moon to be able to see them again! Will keep all good thoughts and prayers that the weather cooperates and Evan will be able to get out of Iowa!

Kathy... Can't wait to check out your recipe for Cranberry muffins! LOVE cranberry muffins or my Mom's Cranberry bread recipe. When I get groceries today or tomorrow, I have to pick up a load of apples to make Apple Crisp for Jen.. .it's her favorite! A navy and white quilt! My FAVORITE COLOR--Navy Blue!

Chriss... sure hope Jerry can get rid of that skunk! NASTY smelling creatures! That's quite a picture you paint of him out in his robe, slippers, hat, coffee and gun! Get your camera ready for that one!

Velda.... good to hear you were able to get in a little more fishing time!

Sharona.... So you're getting settled in your new place? Will your out building include a sewing studio!? What a dream that would be to design a sewing space from scratch!

Lucie... you sure made a haul on books! I used to read a lot of John Grisham, but when I was in AK last may I read a lot of Ann Rule books-- true crime stories. Now I feel guilty when I sit and read.

Tina... Aren't anti-biotics wonderful things. So glad Jaz is feeling better.. it's hard to watch the little ones feel so "punk"

Lois... Yes, you better keep that DH of yours. My DEX cleaned the bathroom ONCE and thought he deserved a medal for it! Hope the Dr. has good news for you on Tuesday.

Dolores.... we had major wind here yesterday too! I was hoping that it would blow all my leaves into somebody else's yard, but I see there are still many out there for me to rake/mow today!

Suzette.. Happy Birthday to your DH... Hope you have a great celebration with family today!--and that it stops raining!

Maryz... Wish I could help you come up with some grand ideas of what to do with company. How about give them dust rags and point them to dusty shelves or better yet, pull out all your fabric stash and have them sort by color! OR dump out of bucket of scraps and get them sorting--that's a project that could keep them busy for a while I bet!
I've always wanted to try that when my Grand kids are here!

Well, I've now had 3 cups of coffee and am feeling the "ambitious" come on, so think I'll get up and see what I can get done while the grass dries out a bit. Am trying to think of a nice gentle way to get room mate to get her A$$ up and clean up her messes. She's caught a cold and spent yesterday in bed, so nothing got done. I think if I'd have known she was such a slob I wouldn't have offered my home to her! Oh well... I try to remember every day.. "What ever you do for the least of my brethren, that you do unto Me."

Wishing you all a most wonderful day

Good morning! It’s cool and overcast here this morning. I’ve seen no humming birds now for almost a week—guess they have gone south. I’m keeping a couple of feeders up… just in case.

Chriss—Jerry had better be careful shooting that skunk—it could spray in death throes. DH caught one in a Hav-a-heart trap, threw a blanket over the trap and released it several miles from home. He wore the bare minimum of clothes while he did it… just in case. They make up for their smell by being “pretty kitties”.

Izzy and I didn’t get to connect—their route and schedule didn’t work out. I was making dinner and hoping they would roll in, but they were still west of Dodge City Friday evening. Maybe next time… it’s so much fun to get to meet you all! I’m hoping they have made it home or are close now… She has such a delightful telephone voice.

Kathy—anything with oatmeal is healthy for you… especially dark chocolate no bake cookies! I do love oatmeal.

Sharona—so glad you are enjoying your new house. I think everyone mellows from where they were 35 years ago. Everything was such a competition then… now we are happy to still be here. My DD did some projects about antibiotic resistant bacteria when she was in high school and college.

Teresa—funny about the dates… I wish I could roll the clock back to September. I always need more time this time of year.

Lucie—did you see where Chriss invented the crock pot… too funny! It had to have been invented by a quilter so she could plop stuff in it and go back to the sewing room… Great snag with the books!

Velda—looks like maybe a fishing day here. We went to a fish fry yesterday afternoon. I think it was catfish—I’ll eat any fish. It was super good. They also had turkey for those who don’t like fish.

Suzette—enjoy your company and HB to your DH. I like applesauce cake—great fall cake.

Tina—good to hear Jaz is much better. She just has too much going on… tummy, throat, tooth… No wonder she’s the drama queen.

Lois—it’s always good to get a full night’s sleep. I know the feeling. What a guy—definitely a keeper!

Dolores—the wind will wake me up here, too. Out in Western Kansas, the wind seems to never stop blowing. We’ve had fall winds here—you can tell a weather change is coming…

Vicky—have a blessed day today.

MaryZ—so you are entertainment director as well as chief cook and bottle washer, maid, laundress, innkeepers… Too weeks is too long… no matter how good the friendship. I promise we won’t stay so long. Glad you got a little thread therapy…

I hope to find my sewing room today… We are still picking pecans—more native ones yesterday and keeping an eye on the prize paper shell ones. We need to grab them at the right moment before the birds get them. While we were getting native pecans yesterday, there were woodpeckers and blue jays in the top of the tree. They actually knocked some nuts down to the ground for us in their greedy haste for goodies.

Have a super day!

Good morning everyone! The sun is shining, but it's a tiny bit cool yet..going to 72 deg. today. Earl is at his brother's house with one of his sons...splitting the final "batch" of wood from 3 huge trees. So Jeff has enough wood for the winter and Earl has plenty to burn in his shop.

Last nights "Pringle Mingle" cookout was wonderful. Chili cooked over the fire, vegetable soup, mac and cheese, deviled eggs, pasta salad, potato salad, a marinated bean/veg. salad, two dips and chips, cookies, apple crisp, banana bars. Needless to say, I was FULL! When we got there it was almost hot...80 deg., but when the sun set, the fire pit was really welcome!

Chris LOL at my mental picture of Jerry in his "garb", gun in hand, waiting for the skunk!!!! Thank you for the laugh today!!

Maryz, opps! another laugh out loud on your remark about Chris' grandma getting a job!!

Maryq..how long will that roommate be staying with you?? Did you take her to raise?? lol! Bet it feels like it... ugh. When is Jen coming home to visit?????

Well, time to find some lunch...everyone have a great day!

Joanne

Suzette, I tape Cedar Cove and watch it later...I love it! And I'm really happy to learn that it will be back! That applesauce cake sounds interesting...maybe you could post the recipe in the Chit Chat section??

Lois, what did you do to your foot?????

I'm back, got a couple hrs more sleep anyway :o)
Suzette, I need to mop so bad here too and we haven't had the rain but we have had dust from them harvesting.
Velda, you sound like you're really enjoying all that fishing, sorry it's coming to an end though.
Lucie, love you "son" story, so cute :o)
Chriss, LOL what a picture you painted in my mind :o) We've had skunks live with our cats off and on forever it seems. DH has had to scoot them out of the garage....he's never been sprayed even when he accidentally hurt one little girl with the broom handle trying to get her out of a corner. The girls seem to never spray but a male even walks by and I start choking from his stink. Good luck! :o)Oh and a pellet gun might not do what he wants, my DH uses a shotgun when he has to but for the most part they leave when he boots them out.
Kathy, I'm gonna need to check out your recipe when you post it :o)
Sharona, Our football team fires their cannon too for touch downs :o) Or at least they did, I haven't been to a game in a couple years, I always loved it! Yep, I'll say it drives me crazy about the not wanting to give antibiotics these day! If the 1st one she saw on Thursday night at the late clinic would've done something the ER wouldn't have been necessary at all I'm sure! Sounds like you are really enjoying your new house and location, I'm so happy for you :o)
Maryz, I have no ideas for activities, sorry. But you do sound like you've got a few and I bet they are really enjoying their outings :o) Oh and homemade pizza and salad sound heavenly to me :o)
Maryq, I feel for you having a slob for a roommate. Maybe throw open her windows for fresh air and tell her she needs to strip her bed and wash it all so she gets better faster by getting rid of those germs? If it was me I'd just yell and scream.....I know I went through that with DD after she had Jaz a couple times.....she cleaned it all then LOL.
Chickie, our fav kind of pecans are the Shashonies (sp) they have a buttery taste and our round. :o)
ScrappyPat, for some reason I sleep better in my recliner too.
Well I better see what I'm doing today.

I read everyday, but haven't been posting as much as I used to. Takes more energy to think and type than it does to read. I am getting better though.

Corning and I had two great classes, one Thursday night, the Tossed Nine Patch and one Friday with beginners, teaching them to read a pattern and make an apron. I was really tired and just rested yesterday. I desperately need Diet Coke, so I see a trip into town in my very near future. Guess I will be good and swing by the gym while I am in town. That gives me an excuse for no makeup.

Today, I quilted a spiral pieced tree skirt that I have looked at for days with SnD. Now, I just need to bind it (bias) and decide if I want to add any free motion. I still need to finish a large Pink Lemonade and start a challenge, an Underground Railroad, AND I am ordering SBS. Corning has the Farmer's Wife, another has Dear Jane and I am doing Sylvia's. As I understand it, all are lots and lots or very small blocks. Is that right? I also have about 20 tops that need to be quilted.

Not much this week as I an getting a crown set at the dentist tomorrow, going to St. Louis overnight Tues.-Weds., meeting dd to pick up dgs's on Thursday before our next class and keeping them until Sunday. Whew. I am tired just writing it.

Good evening...I am home...I missed you all terribly....no wifi and iffy phone service....but did we ever have a great time...The lobster fest was delicious ND WE PIGGED OUT...Then to top it off we sat and listened to music till about 830p///The band called "The Rock Show" was the spitting image of my all time favorite band "Journey" All who know me know I love Journey, their lead singer sounded so much like him we almost cried, Then we came back to camp and had a bond fire and pina coladas. I am not a drinker by any stretch...an occassional glass of wine with dinner ...but these were so good and I slept like a baby, we really loved the weekend short trips/ Gosh it was fun I felt like a teenager at a concert.... but I really did miss you all//// I need to finish unpacking so I will be back at my usual spot/ soon XXXOOO

Somewhat quiet. The guys are baling the last cutting of hay for this year. they must have needed something because I saw Jon in the shed. Glad to have this part over. Then we can start on corn, waiting for the parts man to call us about the cable that goes on the throttle of the uni so we can start with corn. After the fields are cleared we will start hauling manure out on the fields.Should keep things busy here for a while.

Sewing? I am working on the Halloween quilts, still. Don't think they will be done for gifts for this year. If I can stay with them and have them for next that would be good. Also want to finish the elf on the shelf quilt kit that arrived not too long ago. It has to be done for November, early I think. I have my challenge quilt fabric for the bottom of the windows, now thinking about what to do at the tops....several ideas there.

Need to bring the rest of the plants in for the winter. Pick up walnuts and get the yard ready. Expecting rain this week.

Sticker shock, seed corn is up to $400 a bag. Also is anyone else hearing about the massive loss of cattle in the snowstorm that hit a week or more ago?? Last we heard the losses were around 60,000 head.
Chickie are you hearing about it? For the most part the news is very quiet about that, unless you are watching a farm channel.

Have a good day. Happy sewing. Prayers and hugs.

Karon, glad the classes went well. I am getting excited about the challenge quilt. Mine is going to be beautiful..and I am using some fabric that I have had for YEARS!! I can hardly wait to start. May have to spend less time on the computer and more on the sewing machine!!

Sandy, smiling and thinking of block placements in the challenge quilt..
