Re: Thursday, July 18th
Suz - the retreat in November sounds like fun. Not as fun as the Houston Int'l. Quilt Festival but a heck of a lot closer! BOING BOING 3.5 Months until the Houston show.
Lois - make some good memories with those grandkids. I've never been to a quilting retreat but Sue,Vicki and I have our sew-ins from Friday night until Sunday afternoon and we have a lot of fun at those.
Lori - sorry about your iron. How old was it?
Judi - hope you get to your Dresden Plate today. Mine's just sitting there because I keep working on hand applique and I need to get the border pieced and attached to the RV quilt. I did order the backing for that quilt last night.
Kathy - I agree with you - that quilting chair is the most important piece of furniture in the house!!! I wish it was cooler for you.
Gabriele - how'd you get so lucky to be running around in a jacket while everyone else is close to heat stroke? Lucky you. I can't wait 'til November.
Chriss - shame on your daddy for traumatizing you like that!!!! LOL LOL LOL. My new iron isn't new anymore but I can happily say it has lasted me for about two years now. It never spits or leaks, gets really hot, and it's heavy so you don't even have to press down. It's a DiLonghi 300P and well worth the money. I'm so glad I bit the bullet and got one.
Last night I fixed dinner and folded a dryer full of whites and got another load started then I shopped on line for backing fabric for the RV quilt. Also talked with Vicki on the phone so we could decide which Sampler class we will go to at the quilt show. Today I'll go home and fix dinner, get another load out of the dryer, get the house ready for the cleaning lady and (hopefully) get in my sewing room and work on that RV quilt. In other words.....it's the same old same old.
I hope we can all fondle fabric today.

Good Morning,
SUZ - putting together your Christmas blocks sounds like an ideal project for a Nov. retreat! The Contrary Wife block is also in El's "Victory Quilts" book.
LOIS - that week went fast! Even for me! how far away do your DGK's live? Enjoy the movie!
LORI - I went through several irons a few years ago. Two Rowentas and a Shark. I finally got on at Goodwill for $4 and it lasted 3 years! Now I have an inexpensive off-brand. It works well and shuts off after 10 min and I like that feature - after discovering I'd left my iron on for 4 days once!
JUDI - congrats on the UFO's! What are your DP's like? They are all so different! I make homemade pizza a lot. I often toss some Italian Seasoning in my dough or some minced garlic. Sometimes both. If I don't, then I add them both to the toppings.
KATHY - It's good to take your time when choosing furniture! We bought Lazy Boy couch, recliner, and easy chair about 5 yrs ago. They were quite comfy in the store, but when you spend an evening in the easy chair it kills my back! The couch isn't much better. DH's recliner is fine though. And I just got an e-mail from my DD, also in Austin. (She lives on Lake Travis, west of town.) She says it's been stormy this week and temps in 70's. She's loving it!
Gabriele - Sorry you had a bad night, but hope your HA has gone away. Are you working today?
CHRISS - have you priced wood flooring at Costco? They have - or had, anyway - about 4 or 5 different ones. I bet Marilyn is dancing with excitement about getting her room painted!
VELDA - happy anniversary! you're happy to be back in your own bed? But you can take your own bed with you when you visit!! Though parking isn't always easy for our own beds, I guess.
MARY Q - too bad that you have to work all those hours. Would it be easier if you calculate your OT pay in yards of cotton rather than in dollars? Sounds like they need to hire a few more people. What do you do in your job? Do your fill the Rx's? Work in the office? I am always looking for clues in your posts. I know you have a desk . . .
CINDY - where are you today?
Not much cooking around here. But Judi's talk of pizza has left me with a hankering so I think I'm going to make a BBQ chicken pizza tonite, since I have some cooked chix in the fridge. As for the rest of my day - a little yard work and a little sewing and voila`! Happy Hour!
I hope you get some thread on you sometime today!

DUH had the most perfect opportunity too...guess that means I am way over the hill. I did get this Pig Cookie jar that squeals my DIL#1 collects "pigs" so when I see unusual pigs I pick them give for birthdays or Christmas or just "I love you gifts" DH found this Anchor that's about 24" long give or take a few and it's made out of basket like stuff (very neat) so we bought that for DS#1 as he was a navy man. DH found him couple things for him, I found Parasol basket with flowers In it got that for my sewing room maybe. Had a nice lunch at the restrurant had some Red Velvet cake to die for! Love it!

Chriss.....Lucky you getting the house all painted!! I would like to but not sure how much it would cost to hire someone to do it Dh & I wouldn't climb up on ladders etc we are pass that age.
I bet you are counting down the hours till your vacation starts I would be I sure hope you enjoy yours!
Velda.....Glad your back and congrats on the Table runner I bought a new pattern but havn't tried it yet it is the one shucks can't remember the name something about tumbling pinwheels I think and you use this template I 'll try to remember to look it up want to do it in fall colors as soon as the old wrist will let me.

Re: Thursday, July 18th
Good morning, good morning!
It will be another big hair day here, but we have so few weeks a year like this that I don't mind. The year we went 128 days without getting above the freezing point - that was hard.
Miriam - I've been so thrilled with the thin hair treatment from Sally's but I'm sorry it didn't work for you. It does make me laugh at my vanity because the shampoo and conditioner smell like Ben Gay, and then the drops (I don't even know what category to put those in) smell like nicotine so I must have the smelliest hair, but I can live with that as long as their is less hair on the shower drain (and David doesn't leave me!)
Mel - Hey, we could have scary hair pictures! Mine does amazing things with this humidity. I think I could even get it to stand up like a mohawk although it would wilt to the sides and end up resembling a demented clown-look!
Mary/Rose - Praying that your DH finds a job that pays well. It is a tough financial economy right now.
Dorothy - my mom loves dishes too. She just called me last night and was so thrilled because at her local thrift store she had bought a basket for $4 filled with 12 teacups of a Haviland china print she has been collecting. I think she probably almost has enough now to put together two dish services for the granddaughters. She sneaks her dish purchases into the house because my dad is very much in the mode of downsizing and not acquiring.
We need to bug-bomb the basement soon. With the warm, humid weather, we are growing quite a spider population and I do not like waging war with spiders in my house. I'm not as squeamish as I used to be, but I still don't like them.
Have a great day everyone,
Karlene

We are on the road again for an overnight stop in Ohio on our way to MI. We both have a sister and we also have a niece each there. Haven't seen them in yrs so it will be fun.
Judi - not sure of our schedule yet, but lunch sounds great. Where would we meet?
Chriss, You so deserve this vacation. Can't wait for you to begin it.
MaryZ, we are about to get some downtime and I will pm you soon.
Tina , cold in NM????? What is happening there? miss you!
Shirley Mae , are you still out there somewhere....or should I say in there somewhere?
I know that ac is on in your house. This humidity is killing Ken and I. It really makes it hard to even breath.
Mary/rose, another job????? So you have decided to give up sleeping, have you. Wish Randy could find a job. I will be praying that, that happens soon. Wish we could have gotten to see you this summer. Randy would have been shocked how big Luke has gotten and what a well behaved dog he is. Vets ask us if he is a warlock. Guess that is a large do I bred for protection. He's not..just a big boy.
MaryQ,I am so sorry that you have to work such long hours ,but payday is a happy day for you. (Song) YOU'RE IN THE MONEY!!!!!!
Welcome to all our new ladies! You are going to love it here. This is home to me.

CAROLE - I hear you about that humidity. It can be suffocating, and postage stamps stick to you. Our weather for the foreseeable future is low humidity (though not AZ arid!) and upper 70's and low 80's. Come join us! And don't forget Luke!! We need a dog fix!
KARLENE - I've given up on my hair. when my sister and I hit our 50's, our hairs went all curly! While curly hair runs in mom's family, we'd never had it before. Now, I just mousse it with 'curly mousse' and let it do it's own thing. If I try to style it, it looks the same, so I don't mess with it any more. Just towel dry, mousse, and scrunch. But if I get in humidity then we add FRIZZ! Don't get me started on wind! Tell your mom, I was in Goodwill a few years ago and found a complete service for 8 of Noritake china for $29. I couldn't get it in my cart fast enough. I looked it up on line and piece by piece, it was worth over $700.
PAT - sorry you didn't find any fabric. But sounds like you came home with some treasures anyway! Hope your hand is healing. I could still sew if it were my left hand, but my right? I'd have to teach DH how to operate a rotary cutter, I guess. I'd just tell him it's a low tech Skil saw!
CINDY - here I am! Did you find some backing fabric? and when you have your sew-in with Vicki and Sue, where do you put everyone with their machines? Just curious. Dining room? Kitchen? Sewing room?

Re: Thursday, July 18th
Good morning!
Suzette - time is really flying, isn't it. I also need to get to my LQS. Next week, when our DS/DDIL/DGD get here, it's going to be close to 100 every day. Hope you are staying cool.
Lois - have fun at the movies. Why is it that time moves so much faster when we're spending it with our DGKs?
Lori - what kind of iron are you going to get? How much longer before things are back to 'normal'?? FL is a LONG ways away from CA, that's for sure.
Judi - homemade pizza crust - YUM. I've been afraid to try a seasoned crust - I bet y'all love it. Stay cool...
Kathy - you're home! Yay. I'll need to go back and read up on your DD. I love the cranberry color - it sounds luscious. I agree - it must be 'just right'. Hope some rain falls on you today.
Gabriele - sorry about your headache - those are awful. My headaches went away when mentalpause arrived - a silver lining indeed. It sounds strange to say that I hope things warm up for you...!
Chriss - I love the idea of putting laminate throughout the house. It's so much easier to take care of than carpet (but that's because I'm lazy). We'll have the girls for ten days before DS2 gets here. When DS2 is here, I'm going to have him paint my basement quilting area - should only take him 30 minutes. I'm thinking of a nice RED! I'm so proud of Richard - such a handsome young man. Chopped garlic in the pizza crust sounds quite yummy. Happy vacation eve eve.
Velda - welcome back! Sounds like a good time was had by all. Happy sewing day to you.
Maryq - I'm so sorry you have to work so hard. But at least you can buy more fabric! Of course, that means you'd have to find time to sew - I guess the only time left is while you're sleeping. I hope you have groceries in your house...!
Cindyg - my goodness you had a busy day yesterday. Hope you're able to fall into your sewing hole tonight.
Maryz - parking your beds - oh my that paints an interesting picture. We saw tons of RVs on the road, plus at the conversion van place (which is the biggest RV/van place we have ever seen). DH is afraid to drive them in the city, so alas, no camping in my future. Wow - FOUR days?! I also need the auto-shutoff feature. Enjoy the yard work and sewing and happy hour!
Pat - sounds like you found some great treasures - the pig cookie jar is my favorite. Wish I could have some of your tomatoes....
Karlene - I laughed when you described how your hair smelled - glad it's working for you. As for the big hair - I'd LOVE to see pictures of it! I have a spider web with two spiders on the night light in the kitchen - it only had one when we left on vacation. I hope your bug bombs work. I love the sound of your mom's plate collection!
Carole - I so know what you mean about the humidity. When we were in St Louis (which is still the hottest place I've ever been to), once we stepped out of the van, I thought I was going to pass out from the heat and what I loosely would call 'air'. Have a lovely visit with your sis and niece!
We did get our new van and I LOVE it. We test drove the icky one DH had put the deposit on. It has zero power. Maybe it's just me, but when I step on the gas, I want it to GO, not think about it for awhile. We lucked out - our new van was sitting in the detail shop after having arrived about an hour before we got to the dealership. After DH drove it, and saw the wisdom in me saying 'this is the last van we'll ever own', we bought it. YAY! We gave DS2 our old van, which works great but looks like heck because of the wreck. We have SO much to do before next Saturday, plus two DGDs to entertain. I am feeling overwhelmed, to say the least. Oh well! Such is life. Did I mention that our dog's thyroid has stopped working? She started on her pills yesterday. Better get busy - DH is back and rearing to go. Have a lovely day, my wonderful quilty friends.
xoxo! Sharona

Have a lovely day, my wonderful quilty friends.
xoxo! Sharona

Maryz - I'm here - LOL. All this talk about pizza makes me want to pick up the phone and get one delivered - LOL LOL. You know how I love to cook. When my girls were at home I use to make homemade pizza. Not any more.
Pat - sorry about your trip to the fabric store for last weeks sale. Oh, well, at least you got a pig and an anchor - LOL LOL.
Karlene - do bug bombs kill spiders? I didn't know that. Cool. You are funny talking about your hair - demented clown hair - LOL LOL
Carole - sorry about your humidity. It's awful. It's so bad here we can feel ourselves walking thru the air.
