Good morning, good morning quilting buddies!
It is a summer day here and a day where my hair will just keep getting bigger as we go through the day! It feels nice to me, but then I don't have to be outside working in it - I'm sure the contractors, landscapers and farmers will be drinking like crazy to keep ahead of the heat.

Our car had a sleepover at the repair shop and should be getting some new parts this morning that will eliminate a really bad creak.

I found a few more maternity clothes for Victoria although with this heat I think she feels like going with nothing. I remember when I was pregnant how weird it was that my body just could not regulate itself in summer temps. Well, like Maryz reminded us, winter is coming. Bah-humbug!

Have a wonderful day, and stay as cool as you can.

Kathy - gosh, you don't have A/C either? And you have temps up in the 90's? How do you stand it? How do you sleep???? And bake??? Too bad you can't make smaller loaves.

Chriss - I'm here. I didn't get here yesterday. As soon as I walked in the door I was bombarded. Speaking of teenager room color - we painted our Kim's room to match her bedspread and within 6 months all of the walls from ceiling to floor was covered with her friends notes and signatures using a marks-a-lot or pens. When she moved out it took two coats of Kilz on those walls before we could paint it. It became my sewing room. Anyway, my point is that neon would be great in comparison. LOL

Maryz - how was the dentist?

Karlene - you hair gets bigger? I wish I had enough hair to get bigger! Your car had a sleep over at the repair shop - you are funny. Winter can't get here fast enough for me. I can't wait for the end of October/first of November when it gets a little cooler and there is usually less humidity. It's usually really nice right at Houston Quilt Festival time. I got my catalog for that quilt show last week. I haven't even looked thru it but I brought it to work with me in case I get a few minutes to look thru it. Don't know if I want to take a class or not.

Good Morning,

SUZ - so sorry to hear about Wyatt. And about the lack of support in their circle. Unfortunately, it's all too common when the going get rough. Prayers for your brave little nephew. Days without water? That is going to be rough on a lot of people!

VICKY - I hope your day's plan happens according to the plan!

GABRIELLE - welcome to the forum! Tell us a little about yourself. Such a pretty name!

LOIS - sounds like you're going to have to take those DGK's to a lot of air conditioned movies if the heat keeps up!

MARY ROSE - How many furbabies do you have? Any PURRbabies?

JUDI - In this heat, wouldn't a bread machine be nice to be able to set it outside to bake. I use my crockpot and toaster oven out on the deck a lot in the summer so as to not heat up the house.

IZZY - sorry about the burns. Fingertips are painful! I have eczema on my hands that flares up frequently so I often use gloves to sew. They are actual sewing gloves and I think they're called Grabaroos. I think QIAD also sells sewing gloves. Are your Christmas blocks for the swap or the lotto?

KATHY - hope you can stay cool today. Do you have a fan? Maybe that fabric will soften up if it's washed . .

CHRISS - I'm so glad you're getting away for a few days. Morro Bay is such a neat town. a big park, lots of funky shops, and SLO so close by. We have friends who live there in the winter. You can see the big Morro Rock from their living room window. Will Richard be going with you, too? I bet Marilyn is excited!

Today we're going to almost 90 degrees - unusually hot for here, but tomorrow we drop back to the low 80's. I plan to give the yard another hour or two on the shady side of the house, and then finish up some placemats for my girls. I'm almost done with all my tablerunners and placemats. Then I guess it's back to my DD's Christmas quilts. But we may go to the movies - if we remember. Tuesday is Sr. Citizen day and we can see any show for $5. but we keep forgetting to go!

Keep your cool!
mary z

KARLENE - you're too funny! your car had a sleep-over at the garage. Once, mine took a 2-week vacation! Without me! Hope Victoria finds a way to keep cool in the heat. When is she due?

CINDY - they have pools that are not much bigger than a hot tub but you turn on the current and swim in place. I think you should do it! Is Vicky still visiting her kids?

My visit to the oral surgeon was fine. I was back out in the car within 5 minutes and that included making my next appt (Aug 9th). He removed the membrane that had been placed over the implant posts. I heard a little "thuck" as he pulled it out, but felt nothing. My kind of dental appt!!

Good morning! We had two showers yesterday afternoon and received a whopping total of 0.05ā€ of rain. Guess I’ll be watering today. Wish that were half an inch instead of a trace. The sun and humidity combined after the shower to make a sauna atmosphere. It would be so nice to have a good shower that would wash the leaves of the trees and cool the earth.

I spent too much time online yesterday finding tires for my truck. Both front tires with holes and flats was the last straw! They have been on the truck for years, so time for new! I got them ordered, and DS1 will put them on for me. It will probably cost a homemade pie!

Suzette—I am so sorry for the people on that water main!!! Hope they get some water saved in jugs, buckets, pots or whatever before it gets shut off. I have a feeling bottled water will be flying off the shelves. Maybe stores can stock up since there is some forewarning. You are right about the tread—it also is supposed to stand up to the sun and weather. Be sure to use a needle for it! You may have to adjust your tension as well. I am so sorry to hear that Wyatt is having to go through so much now. What a brave little soldier!!!

Izzy—hope your burns are better! Ice or ice water is the best, quick treatment! Glad to hear the insurance was approved without a hassle! Thanks for the info on Gabriele’s pictures. I always forget to look there and always find a treasure trove of photos when I do check it.

Vicky—hope you stay cool! I don’t like a high fan blowing directly on me at night either. I sleep under a light quilt to ā€œhideā€ from the wind.

Lois—so sorry that it got so hot there! At least this is somewhat normal for us; I know your area is unprepared. Stock up on popsicles! Make ice pops! Watch out for sunburn! Check out the library or museums… indoor with AC! Movie houses should be air conditioned. Rent movies and stay home. We were 20 degrees hotter than Dallas yesterday!!!

Mary-Rose—your DWR quilt is beautiful!!!

Judi—thanks for reminding me—I need to mix up some bread as well. Our house is metal, so we need AC as well! We do have the sprayed foam insulation, and it is excellent.

Kathy—isn’t that just crazy that you will be hotter than your DD in Texas!!! I have a feeling your fabric was probably for home dĆ©cor rather than a quilt backing, but it will be beautiful as a top quilt on a bed.

Chriss—in your honor last night for supper I had nothing but sweet corn and tomatoes! I was in hog heaven!!! I’ll probably look like a corn fed hog when my corn is gone… Must remember: MODERATION! Sure is hard with corn and tomatoes and watermelon this time of year!!! The cows love corn and the corn stalks. We used to pull the stalks from our garden and take them to the cows. Remember the little nursery rhyme: ā€œLittle Boy Blue come blow your horn; the sheep are in the meadow, the cows in the cornā€¦ā€ P.S. I like neon!!!

MaryZ—I like that kind of dental appointment, too! I go next week for my 6-month cleaning. Try to stay cool!!! You are in our climate now! Do you have the high humidity that we have? I always vote for a movie!

Cindy—I’m with you on the hair!!! It’s still fun to look through the catalog and dream of November!

Karlene—I’d like to have too much hair!!! It’s so nice now that maternity clothes can be cool—t-shirt fabrics not the heavy stuff of the 60s and earlier… Check out some old ā€œI Love Lucyā€ episodes and look at those outfits we had to wear!!! That’s an expensive craving! Mine was green grapes and jelly beans (not necessarily together).

Today is laundry yet again… Oh, floors, too, of course. I hope to see my sewing room and the ā€œcan you do this for meā€ stuff before I get to quilt.

Have a super day!

Where does summer go? Finished ragtime quilt, picked (4gallon) of saskatons from backyard tree. Ktn sits out watching his birds, taking the breeze, eating his moths and flies.. Just a happy camper! Purchased a waffle maker machine and eating this healthy food every morn. Well, that is after syrup, whip cream and brown sugar, butter don't know the health watch. But easy, fast and very good.
