Re: Friday July 5,2013
Good Morning,
LOIS - Have fun in that sewing room!
SUZ - wow! your to-do list is a long one! Better get the sewing done first. that's always MY motto!
MARY-ROSE - thanks! Glad you could make it here today.
VICKY - my girls aren't vegans, but they are vegetarians. And I worry about them, too, if they are getting enough protein. What are you gluing to Kim's quilt? Do you glue your appliques down first and then sew them?
JUDI - we don't have ground hogs here but we do have raccoons. And with Snickers gone they are already coming up onto our deck. DH had to chase one off the other day himself. I DO want another dog, but not quite yet. I have other things for Bill to do besides chase raccoons.
IZZY - We have a friend in Nashville and she said it felt like home (PNW) to have so much rain on July 4th! And a friend in GA sent us pictures of the rain coming down in sheets! We were chilly (68) but dry. So sorry about your 4-Wheeler! Sounds like you really need it to work your farm. We have a Polaris RZR (side by side) and use it a little on our property but mostly it's just for fun.
CHRISS - Can Marilyn refuse to see her mom, even if it's allowed? Sounds like your girl is doing so much better without her bio-mother in her life. Glad your sewing mojo is alive and well! I can hear your machine buzzing from here!
SHARONA - I'm with you on the fireworks issue. Move over and make room on that soapbox! I often wonder if they even stop to think what they are 'celebrating' when they set off those big boomers or if they are just using the Fourth as an excuse to get drunk and rowdy.
Cindy's friend, Ed, has been back in ICU again, taken by ambulance last night. This poor man is so nice and he is really struggling to live.
I see there are only 2 slots left in the Christmas Swap. If you've been considering whether or not to join the fun, you better make up your mind soon! Still almost 2 months to get your blocks made and delivered to Teresa's door.
We had a very quiet Fourth. Though our neighbors didn't!! Poor Riley went and hid and didn't come out until after midnight. Today, SUE and her DH, Kenn, are comin' to town!! We're almost all ready for them. We're BBQ'g chicken shish-ka-bobs, lemon fried rice, and a tossed green salad. Tomorrow I'll take her to a couple of quilt shops if she'd like to go.
Wishing you all a sew-tastic day!
Mary Z

KATHY - yay!! you're going home! It sounds as if your DD has reached the point where she needs to start depending on herself. If she's upstairs, does she do OK on the steps? Cleaning the craft closet today sounds like fun. And if you go get sushi, you can have my share, too. My treat! lol! and Monday is only 72 hours away!

Hi y'all. I'm at work today and so flooded. I don't know how I got so behind. We spent our 4th at the ER and then ICU with Vicki and Ed. Ed had an episode yesterday. They think he had a heart attack and he does have pneumonia. He will have to miss his radiation treatment today as they will be doing tests. We thought we were losing Ed but he pulled thru. He told Vicki he couldn't do this anymore. My goodness this is so hard to watch.
I hope we can all fondle some fabric today. I plan to do hand applique this weekend.

Re: Friday July 5,2013
Good “Morning After the 4th”! We went to a family picnic yesterday—my late DH’s family. It’s always nice to see everyone and catch up. Came home and checked… more blackberries! We had a few days in the 80s, and it really helped the berries be plump and black. So, I sprayed good, put on long pants and boots and went out. I got enough to make jam this afternoon. I’ll probably try to go again this evening. Have no idea if the stuff worked on the chiggers or not. I’m still itching and oozing, so it won’t make much difference! They are miserable critters!!! DH went over to his sons’ and found a big party so he stayed while I was in the blackberry patches. When he got back, we went to town and had an ice cream cone and watched the city fireworks. There’s still a bit of kid in us!!! We met my DD & family at the picnic, and my DGD went home with them. My DGS is now ½ an inch taller than I am; he’s 14… Hard to believe he is so tall!
Today we are meeting DH’s former co-workers for lunch. They are a fun bunch, and I’ve seen them so much it’s hard not to think that I worked there, too!
MaryZ—I’m sorry, but I had to laugh at your chigger story. If you’ve never gotten them, you can’t imagine what it’s like! The first time I picked blackberries years ago, I didn’t know… I ended up at the doctor’s office for my DD and me… $35 (LONG time ago) in office calls and prescriptions for cortisone rub or tablets—very expensive cobbler!!! There wasn’t a square inch on me that didn’t have welts, oozing and itching… Congratulations for winning the contest with your chicken-head portrait!!! That was too cool!!!
Scrappy Pat—you are fortunate not to have the buggers up there!!! I’m impressed with all your quilt making!!! I would love to find time to get in my sewing room and start catching up on the “have tos” so I can actually quilt!
Judi—too funny about the tapioca! I love the stuff—for pie thickening and for pudding!!! I think it’s fun at Halloween to make things and give them funny names… Have you ever had the frog eye salad made with the Acini de Pepe pasta? It was popular back in the 60s. I always liked it, too. We saw a big den of some kind on one of our trails. I think DH is going to set up a game camera to see what is living there. Perhaps you would benefit from one in your garden! DH used to use a radio in the garden at night to keep the raccoon out of the corn. Send rain!!!
Suzette—I need to thaw out a roast and do that!
Mary/Rosebud—I have a hard time in the summer with everything going on! Seems easier in winter when there’s not the yard work and watering…
Vicky—I miss the old drive-in theaters!!! I need Ross’s secrets for weight loss/maintenance!!! It’s hard to be vegan here on a cattle farm! Am I right in that vegans do not use ANY animal products at all? (Milk, eggs, even honey…)
Izzy—SEND RAIN!!! Love the cool, too! No complaints here at all!!! It was over 90 when I went out at 5:30 to pick berries! DH ran over something and he’s got two new 4-wheeler tires ordered. Such is life! We have the small Kubota side by side. I loved Mary & Bill’s side by side when they came to visit! When DH was looking at small tractors, I was driving around the parking lot on the sxs! I asked about discounts for purchasing it with the tractor (while DH was swooning). He didn’t really think he needed the new 4-wheeler. We got both of them, and now he uses his every day. He finds it easy to load his tools in the back and go all over the farm rather than hitching a trailer to the old 4WD or strapping a box on the back rack. I really like your hexi flower power topper!!! Saw the photos—makes me wish I had joined this one!
Chriss—you are a fun swap hostess!!! Maybe you should keep a bunch going!!! Unfortunately, I can’t keep up with the mending and “have-to” projects to get in the swaps… Sigh! I love the GFG patterns and old quilts!!! I can’t believe they are trying to get Marilyn with her old family and especially if she doesn’t want to see them. Whose interests do they have priority for??? Best wishes to you!!!
Sharona—I’m amazed at the size of fireworks that can be sold to the public! I’m also surprised that Colorado allows any fireworks as dry as it is and with the fires! I agree with your description of the shooters!
Kathy—so glad you are getting to go to your own home! You have been a real trooper to stay so long!!! Enjoy your sushi and the craft closet!
I have water soaking the “flower wall”, so need to go turn it off and get myself fixed for the day. I’ll try to check in later…
Have a fabulous Friday!!!

I really wish I could bottle up all this rain and send it west I know you all need it out there:) I will trade rain for 4wheeler LOL.
Went down umbrella in hand in my moomoo(I really do have clothes these are just so comfy and not like I am going anywhere in this yuk:)} and muck boots again to check on lower barn. Chicks are growing; fed my goats in barn a little--they cant graze they hate to be wet. Upper barn treck is later in afternoon. Middle barn is right in front of house not too far to treck too. Little ones in that field:) All are sitting tight waiting for break in rain to come out and graze always one in door way looking out too cute.

Good morning!
In just a few we are heading up to Brigham City - that is where there is a ton f fruit orchards to get apricots - Sarah is making jam and fruit leather out of them. She didn't want to go alone - so we are taking a ride with her.
The Fourth was fun yesterday - I stayed and sewed most of the day and got my tree blocks done for the cabin swap - not happy with the cabin block - so I am looking for a new one. Most of the professional shows last about 20 minutes - well, us Utahns think that being patriotic is burning down your neighborhood with fireworks - they were shooting them off all over the valley and we watched for over an hour before coming in - they were still going! These were the large aerials and quite pretty too - we had the hose handy - we are fine!
Time for me to get dressed and feed a hungry DH before we go - there is a quilt shop near where we are going to - one of my old favorites - we shall see if I get to stop there - Brigham City is about 90 minutes north of us
Have a great day
Hugs
Jana

Quilt stuff:
Regular glue sticks (white) and yes I glue my applique before I sew them down. I've been using liquid white glue and a tooth pick. The glue stick works pretty good. I've been in there working on it for a few hours today. I have 32 more leaves to make, glue on and then sew on all the rest of the applique- goal my birthday July 14th to have it finished by. It is hot today and the starch isn't working well. I'm thinking about buying Best Press and seeing if that works any better.
Son questions:
Vegans don't eat anything animal, don't wear animal (even leather shoes) And yes he does eat nuts. I know he is getting enough protein, it's fats he needs.
Well, it's back to the sewing room I go!

Hi All,
Back from dinner DH and I went to a Chinese restaurant that was great no cooking.
I made a dent into the sewing room today cleaning trying to get it in order just to crowded in there so I cleaned out some of the closet and put batting up there.
Pretty soon I will be able to put my pantry's together and fill them.
Vicky I always loved the Drive Inns they were the best there are a few in PA Beckys Drive Inns.
Well I hope Everyone Is still having a great day.

Quilt update- all the leaves are cut out I have about 24 more to starch into shape (burned my fingers, needed a break) I have the remaining corners glued down and ready to sew. I have decided to get everything made and then I will sit and sew and sew. Done for today, going to watch Fireworks with Emily and my sister.
Why don't they do fireworks on the 4th anymore???
