Name that quilt block

Post by billizzy » Wed Jun 26, 2013 7:37 am

Ok Ladies need your help My aunt just called it a dresden. she made this for me back in 86. It is in dire need of some repair. Any suggestions how to go about that? I have lots of purples to use but not sure how to start. Anyone know the real name for this block?
See the worn out fabric in 3 oclock petal. a lot of blocks look like this. well used and loved quilt.

Hi billizzy,
My grandma had one like this one, done in scraps. Don't know the "official name" of it, but she always called it the appliqued star. I am sure there is someone that knows the true name though. It is really pretty.

Izzy--it's a beautiful quilt! If I were to replace fabrics, I'd applique over the original patches. Another suggestion would be preservation as it is--perhaps appliqueing tulle over the blocks. I don't know the name--looks like star flowers to me (not an official name--just my description).

Well Izzy, I don't know the name of the block, but it is beautiful. I have a few really old books I can look through and see if it might be in one of them. Like Maryz, it looks like a daisy to me.

Here is a link I found for a pattern called Dresden plate. It looks very close to yours. Hope this works and helps you out.

What a pretty vintage quilt I think Mariam said it best to put fabric over the worn out petals not to disturbe it to much try to hand applique it on.

Just my 2cents.

Izzy, I will be thinking on this while I am at work today. Maybe something will come to mind that will work that won't disturb the other pieces too much.
