The 16.5" block is made up of 4 sections of strips using 2.5" strips. See the Picture :)
Section A = sew (3) 2.5 strips together & cut into a 6.5" x 6.5" block
Section B & C = sew (3) 2.5" strips together & cut (2) 6.5" x 10.5" blocks
Section D = sew (5) 2.5" strips together and cut a 10.5" x 10.5" block
The dark lines in the picture are your seam lines when you sew the sections together. You will need to trim 2 sides of each section before you sew them together. Leave the other 2 sides to make sure you have the right size block for the winners to square up.

***** The hint for successful blocks is to check the measurements of your strips after you sew the first 2 together and after adding each of the next strips and also to make sure the line on your ruler is lined up on each strip seams when you cut to ensure no crooked blocks - I know you can do it!!!!
* Block size = 16.5"+ unfinished blocks
* See the picture for samples of colors and fabrics
* No SOLIDS, Novelty or Metalics
* Please MEASURE to check the block size BUT DO NOT SQUARE THEM UP
* Attach a name label to the upper FRONT corner of EACH SET of blocks
* Please have them to me by the LAST DAY of the month.
* LET THE NEW YEAR BEGIN WITH A FREEBIE MONTH - SEND NO MONEY

* 1 ticket = Signups by 5th of JANUARY (no commitment obligation)
* 1 ticket = for each 16.5"+ block (made from the A-B-C-D sections)
* 1 ticket = for every 4th block you send
* 1 ticket = if your block reaches me by the 31st
* 1 ticket = for Poetic bribes :)

LET THE FUN BEGIN - "HAPPY STITCHIN"!!!!!!!!!!!

This one certainly looks easy enough! Teresa really challenged our creative instincts last year. I can probably get a few done in between trying to find my floor and cutting table.;)

Jo

Edited to ask: Teresa, these are springy and summery type colors, right?

Hi there
The colors are a mix. You can see some Springy, Summer and some light to medium Fall prints. Some light to medium purples. Just nothing to dark or it will stick out when you put the quilt together.

You will be sewing the 4 (A-B-C-D) sections together to make a 16.5" block. Make a sample first to find the right 1/4" seam making sure your 2.5" strips are the right size. Very similar to last months strips but we are putting them together differently.

*If you choose not to sew the 4 sections together then please put all 4 of them in one baggie and mark on the outside (1) 16.5" block. That will be fine as well.

Oh Silly, Silly me. There are NO POINTS - YEA!!!!!!!!
For me I just have to watch out in making sure that my inside strips are 2" and the outside strips are 2.25" AFTER I sew them all together before I cut them to the right size block.

Hope this clears everything up - Feel free to ask. That is what I am here for. I think once you sew your sets of 5 strips and sets of 3 strips you will get the hang of it and have a WOOHOO - HAPPY STITCHIN' PARTY!!!

Hiya Everyone,

I've never done this before so lets see if I understand.

Section A = sew 3 strips together and cut into a 6.5" x 6.5" block
Section B & C = sew 3 strips together and cut (2) 6.5" x 10.5" block
Section D = sew 5 strips together and cut a 10.5" x 10.5" block

1. Take colored scraps and no solids and make a 16.5 square.

The 16.5" block is made up of 4 sections of strips using 2.5" strips.

2. Make 4 of them of the 6.5 and join them to make 16.5" square.
3. Then send to Therese right?

If so I'll do a few 16.5 blocks.

June

Hi June - Looks like you have everything right ... but not sure about your #2.
It should read ... Make 1 of each section A-B-C-D and join those to make the 16.5" block.

ENJOY - I know you can do it and make some AWESOME BLOCKS!!!

Here are 2 from me.

Great instructions/diagram Teresa!

And Jacquie your beautiful blocks with all the florals, inspired me! My sewing table is a mess, but was fun to get out all of my floral scraps. Most are already in the 2 1/2 inch strips, so just needed to select my layouts. ;)
