Re: Applique Cup Cakes closed sent
Thanks Vinae...
I know we all have different skill levels, but these in no way follow the rules of the swap... a blank piece of fabric with cupcakes doesn't even fit the title of the swap... and hunks of fabric stacked on eachother that don't even remotely resemble cupcakes also don't follow the rules.
and I hope that instead of being upset that you aren't getting 25 different blocks you are thankful to Vinae for saving your effort filled blocks for you instead of sending you blocks outside of the guidelines....
Vinae works very hard on these swaps and she feels awful for turning blocks away...right now she surely could use your support filled kind words...I hope you let her know how you feel....nicely...
thanks
Chriss

I have no problem with the number of blocks, whatever it ends up being. If you would like to use my extras for anything, please feel free to do so.
I thank you for doing the swap and know it's a lot of work and I appreciate all your efforts. I'm sorry this has happened, but do understand.
Thanks again for all you are doing.

Vinae,
I completely support your decisions. You are always an AWESOME swap hostess and I am glad to see that you are looking out for us participants.
I just hate that this has happened and I hope you don't feel badly for doing what needed to be done.
Hugs to you, friend...

Vinae - This is a very hard position you were put in. There were many pictures of blocks that were made and links that would give them inspiration and the different patterns. Thank you for looking out for us.
To the Pal who sent these blocks ... please take this situation as constructive teaching and please don't stop quilting. You were on the right track but with the help of the right aids, looking at the links posted, the pictures of others blocks, making sure you had the proper measurements and most of all practice, practice and more practice we all know you will be making some awesome blocks soon. If you ever need any advice or help in finding these aids feel free to ask us here on this forum or maybe at a local quilt store. We all love helping each other become the best quilters we can be.
Thank you again Vinae for hosting this swap. I have all my fabrics ready and waiting to receive the sweets
HUGE HUGS to you

Thank you Vinae for looking out for all the Swap members. It is an aweful position to be in to judge the blocks and make a decision to reject some.
I feel bad for the members who submitted their work in good faith and fell very short of the mark. That is why it is always good to ask lots of questions even if you think your question is silly.
I hope that these pictures help everyone. I certainly don't mind if I end up getting a couple of my own blocks back in my package. It will just make the quilt I end up contructing for my granddaughter all that more personal for her. I had planned to add some of my own design anyway.
This is my first swap and I can't imagine all the work it takes to host a swap. My Hat is off to you, Vinae and all the other gals who make these fun swaps a pleasant experience. I have learned a lot by doing the monthly swap that Teresa is hosting. It really does take a lot to give of your time, talent and patience to deal with all these issues. Thank You Vinae!!!! Teresa!!!! and all the other hostesses!!!

Re: Applique Cup Cakes closed sent
ahhh, such a shame...
vinae you have had the hard task of making this decision, and yes, you have done the right thing, although it can't have been easy.
i know on another forum the host would not have hesitated in making a refusal... the blocks would have been right back in the mail with a very 'curt' 'pm' through the forum. no feelings spared.
we all know what a wonderful host you are and have been... and will be again
we are 100% behind you deary
and hope this set back does not put you off doing any more swaps, as that would be an even bigger shame!!
i'm quite happy to have which ever number of blocks return home to me, and look forwards to seeing them all
please everyone, spare a thought also for the lady who put in all this work, in good faith... she must also be feeling terrible...
as said before by teresa, maybe some more practice and attendance at the odd workshop should help... i've lost count of the workshops i have attended. i have gained lots of experience and many valuable skills at these workshops, and have loved every single one!!
one thing i do try to do when making blocks for swaps is; make a trial block, look at it and think, "would i be happy to receive this from someone else? if the answer is no, then i 're-do'... no skimping EVER!!
practice, practice and more practice, and don't be deterred!!
never a truer word spoken teresa!!!
god bless xxx

Re: Applique Cup Cakes closed sent
Everyone, thanks so much for all your support. I am really wondering with all my health issues if I should continue hosting if it is going to cause me stress like this. I really enjoy hosting for the most part and have more fun ideas ahead.
I agree with what has been said. I hope the participants that I had to disqualify will practice and continue to learn. We all have to start somewhere. I feel like this web site has always had very high standards and we all have had to step up to that with our work. I remember the first swap I ever participated in back in 2007. It was a signature block swap on here, and my brother who is also on here, suggested that I join in, but I couldn't afford the fabric at that time so he bought it for me and sent it to me. The rules stated that we all buy our fabric from a certain line that was on here on QIAD and it was my first experience working with top quality fabric. I couldn't believe the difference. I was very careful to make sure my block was exactly as the rules stated. I can't tell you how many times I read the rules to make sure I was doing them correctly. And it was such a simple block. I just felt like I was participating with the pro's and had to step up my work to match, and try to make my 1/4 inch seams to exactness as best I could. It really makes us better seamstresses to be part of these swaps. My quilting has improved by far in the last 6 years because of these wonderful opportunities on here. Thank you all again and keep sewing. Vinae

I agree with all that has been said. I know there are different skill levels, I always give the chance to beginners, but there is practice, practice and practice... also to take the time, to make efforts to do it right...
Vinae, don't feel bad about having returned these blocks. I know it was not easy for you to do, but you did the right thing. On other forums they are very strict to the rules and would have returned them right away. You are a very sweet hostess, < you too Chriss
> and always do great jobs.
Love & hugs
