Twice as nice Block/ Triangle Block

Hi

I am new to this site and am looking for some information about the Twice As Nice Video. I need some help on the measurement of the stripes used in this pattern.

I have tried it but my stripes did not measure to match the 9 1/2 square up ruler. I have tried it several way but have not figured it out.

I hope someone can help me.
