2012 Block Party- -Quilts From El's Kitchen- Nov

Post by SallyC » Sun Jan 01, 2012 1:31 pm

Instructions for November

El also has 2 different borders to choose from: scrappy checkerboard or an applique swag border on two corners. She also showed us how to do a scalloped edge.

Reminder, the May instructions includes sashing for all of your blocks and how to put the center of the quilt together. 12" blocks use 2 1/2" sashing and cornerstones and 6" blocks needs 1 1/2" sashing and cornerstones. I'll be using the checkerboard border if I have enough background!

Had a ball.

I saw on one of the newsletters a week or so ago online that each block would come with a recipe. I asked for clrification of what is invovled, and suggested they put a little more info in the Event section. It had said to click on the link for more info and how to sign up. Then it said the same info and had another link to pay here. I think they have added a little info.

My understanding is that you pay $84 for the year to get each month's info mailed to you. You go on the website to watch the video each month & post your pics on the special thread. Then the next year, when the book come out, you get a special copy.

Hmm, could it be desserts for all the year? Could we be doing blocks about apple pie? Peach cobbler? I know! Layer cake! Just speculation. But I'm itching to know. I think I will get in on it, this year.

I'm picturing an apple pie block, and I'm probably way off on my ideas, but this is fun.

I see a modified dresden plate in beiges, with a huge center fusible turned applique in the shape of an apple. I don't know of I would use a red and white fabric, green and white, or have to go find one with lots of tiny apples in it!

Just look at my silly imagination running wild.

I signed up - and my only resolution for 2012 is that I will do EVERY block before the next month! Will probably do scrappy, as it is so hard to know what fabric to use when you don't really know about the patterns. (it is so hard for me to choose fabric even when I DO know about patterns!)

Hi Ann! Nice to have you join us!
I have no clue what the blocks will be like--I'm as much in the dark as everyone else--I missed the Christmas Party when El would have said anything (if she did!) since she was still thinking about things when Ann and I were at camp. It looks like it will be a book (rather than 12 Signature patterns) so a block a month rather than a quilt a month, maybe! I'm guessing that the recipies will have the same name as the quilt block--could be all wet!

For some unknown reason, other than I love doing El's patterns, I am excited about this series. LOL I know I am going to sign up, just a matter of when. Don't have the $$ right now, so maybe in February I'll take the plunge. I got a response from QIAD that we can sign up until July! We'll be behind of course, but at least that's a little "wiggle room" to gather the dough kneaded. They said the first video would be in the Theater 3rd week of this month. Now I'm more excited; thanks for the updates, everyone; I know this is going to be fun. hugs, carol/kittyquilt
