I do press the seam to either side - but from the right side of the material - this way the seam just goes over where it is suppose to with out making a small pleat as it sometimes happens. After I have the seam pressed the way I want it - I then go to the wrong side to make sure that it is flat and pretty.

You must watch especially with bias seams that you don't stretch them either

There were lots of rules on the way you press a seam - I go with letting the seam tell me sometimes - because at some intersections - it might have to go to the light side - I have even pressed seams open to reduce some of the bulk at intersections - so it is whatever works best for you!

I set my seams on the wrong side, and then unfold it and press on the top. I make sure there are no folds on the top or bottoms.

I agree with AuntJana on her pressing techniques.

I don't know if it is right or wrong, but I always set my seam by pressing the seam on the wrong side with right sides still together. Then I press the seam open from the right side.

Hi, I am new to quilting and I am making my first project which is hexegans forming a round table cover. I can now see after reading here that I have not been pressing my work correctly. I haven't been pressing on the front just on the back and I think now that I will have trouble stitching in the ditch when I quilt it?
