feed dogs

I am paper piecing a quilt(first one). I am using the feed dogs butI have read that you should drop them. Does anyone do this?

I've never seen to drop the feed dogs except on free-motion quilting. I use the feed dogs for paper piecing.

In the class I took, we left them up. Makes removing the paper easier.

I too leave the feed dogs up - I also shorten the stitch length to a very short stitch - this makes the paper easier to remove too.

Another trick I use to remove the paper is to run my stylus - shish-ka-bob stick over the stitching lines - along the perforations - it then comes off really easy - the point helps pick up the hard corners to get at too
