Re: Have you read a good book lately?
Hi! I just finished reading THE FATAL ERROR by J.A. Jance-it centered around the Salton Sea, San Diego area. I've read quite a few of her books so it was a comfortable read. I'll be trying other authors-Iris Johansen, Sue Grafton,Sandra Brown, Julie Garwood. The "Book Warehouse" at the Lake Elsinore Outlet Mall was closing down and all books were a dollar each so I stocked up. Lucie

Re: Have you read a good book lately?
Irish, our house is like a library, too. Bill has about 8 books and I have probably a thousand or more. Though last year I weeded out a LOT! I reread my favorite authors - Mary Higgins Clark, J.A. Jance, Grafton, Evanovich, Daheim, Mary Jane Clark, Leslie Meier, Joanne Fluke to name a few.
While we were traveling, I was so lonesome for home, so I started re-reading Mary Daheim's books. She's a Seattle author who writes two series - one is a B&B series (funny) and the other is the Alpine series about Emma Lord who is owner/publisher of a weekly newspaper in the town of Alpine, WA. Alpine was a real town and the author's parents used to live there. But it no longer exists. She has brought it back to life and peopled it with likable and realistic characters. It's alphabetical: The Alpine Advocate, The Alpine Betrayal, Christmas, etc. She's up to 'V' I believe.
Mary Daheim is a zany, witty person. I've met her in real life and she's hysterical. Her B&B series are modeled after herself and her real life cousin (who I also got to meet). All her books are well worth reading and re-reading - in my opinion.

Mary, every one of those authors are my favorites, too! And I got rid of alot of mine at the yard sales..I started out buying hardback and switched to paperbacks due to lack of money and space.
Haven't read the Daheim books for awhile though..but your description brought them all back to mind.
Irish, Stars Shine Down was great! It was a pretty fast read and it's a good thing because, like you, I couldn't put it down!
I'm reading the "McNalley's Luck" now. And picked up a couple of Fern Michaels books.

Re: Have you read a good book lately?
Hello, I am new to this list but not new to quilting. I grew up in NE Ohio in Summit County; then lived all over the country: Southern Calif, New Orleans, and Northern Virginia. Now I live on an island in the Pacific Northwest about as far north and west as one can be an still be in the USA. Never dreamed I would wind up some far from Ohio and Virginia, my heart's home. But it is mighty beautiful here and the winters are mild. One of the books on my “Favorites” Reading List for 2011 was “Priceless: How I Went Undercover to Rescue the world’s Stolen Treasures” by Robert Wittman. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. It is an amazing series of true stories. My passion is history – but especially quilt history! As the Past President of The Quilters Hall of Fame and a quilt historian, I would like to invite you to visit the TQHF blog and leave a message of Congratulations for Eleanor Burns. As many of you probably already know, Eleanor will be inducted this summer into The (International) Quilters Hall of Fame during Celebration, July 19-21, in Marion, Indiana as our 43rd Honoree. Please visit the TQHF blog at http://thequiltershalloffame.blogspot.com/ and leave your messages for Eleanor. We will see that she gets all of them! Thank you, be safe and take care of one another! And keep those needles flying!

"Sam's Letters to Jennifer" by James Patterson--very good, different from the rest of his books...Loved it....
"Secrets of the Last Summer" by Carla Neggers---another goodie
"Thunder Dog" by Michael Hingson, with the help of Susy Flory--True story about a blind man and his dog, who worked in one of the World towers when the plane hit...Excellent...This man (and his dog) are unbelievable....highly recommend......
"It Only Takes a Moment" by Mary Jane Clark---good, right up to the end....
"Hide Yourself Away" by Mary Jane Clark---another good read....
Right now I'm reading "The Pilot's Wife" by Anita Shreve and will probably be reading it on the plane going home....
All in all, I've read 29 books, mostly while sitting in the sun....Jim got here last week and he's finished 3 but being the fair Irishman that he is, he stays on the porch.....
Mary, I'm going to have to check out Mary Daheim, the next time I get to the Library, thanks for the suggestions.....
Happy reading...........

Re: Have you read a good book lately?
Good morning!
The friends of the Murrieta Library had a sidewalk sale on overstocked books this last Saturday. $1.00 for Hardbacks and .25 cents for paperback.
I picked up four more of Sue Grafton's books, I liked "T for Trespass" so I couldn't pass them up.
Irish, I also bought "The Pilot's Wife" for .50 cents at the sale. That one is next in line to read.
P.S. Irish, I made potato soup this last weekend...thanks for the recipe!! Lucie

I read the Hunger Games. It is a well written book, but I just had a problem with kids killing kids, and have not read the other 2 books. My grandkids (ages 14, 16, and 25!) said "But Grandma, it's just pretend", and they loved the series.

"Not in the Heart" by Chris Farby. All of his are very good reads.
Just go the latest Randy Singer - can't wait to open it up.
For you gals that like faith based fiction, have you read the Yada Yada series by Neta Jackson? Love them!
