Re: Press to the side or open?
I don't know if you have watched Eleanor on any tv programs. She suggests that the seams be pressed at an intersection this way. Clip slightly from the intersection. Press flat open so the seams all go flat. You can press this with your finger. She also has shown how a thread or two can be pulled out near the cross section to alleviate the pressure on that intersection. I have the best luck with this, and the seams lay flat. Study the seams and they are stronger when pressed to one side, and then followed with the above procedure. Good luck. Try some for samples, and you will see what I mean. Have fun with the experiment.

Re: Press to the side or open?
When I made the Double Irish Chain I pressed all my means to the dark side. However, when I began stitching the rows of blocks together I found some of them would not line up properly to lock in place so I had to press in another direction to get them lined up. As I moved along with this I had to press quite a few seams in a different direction.
Is there a uniform way to press so when you go to stitch the blocks and rows together you don't have this problem of the seams going the wrong direction?
Thanks,
Tess
