quilted purse handles

Does anyone have suggestions as to whether it is better to sew purse handles on the OUTSIDE or INSIDE Of purse that has binding all around the top edge? You sew on the handles, bind the top, then tack or sew the handles to the binding.

I would probably put them on the outside with some kind of imbelishment over where it is attached, such as a large button, etc. I think if you put them on the inside it would hang funny.

I put mine on the out side and embellish them with buttons or something of that sort
