I must be the 'odd duck', as I don't use pins or clips when I bind. I just use my fingers to bring the fabric from the front, where I have machine stitched it onto the quilt, to the back. The thread doesn't have anything to get tangled in!

I use my fingers to pull the binding to the back and stitch, I have a box of binding clips but use them only if I have a difficult binding, I have also used the glue emthods which work exceptionally well. If you go to Utube and type in "glued on binding" you can find the directions.

I just use two clips at a time... I place them 3-5 inches apart when I begin to stitch the binding (starting someplace between them), then I move the clip ahead of my stitching as I go, the other remains to indicate the starting place.

Another tip for using the clips is that when I have to stop, I put several clips over the needle so that no one gets stuck. My precious puppy likes to pre-test all quilts for comfortability and if I throw it over the back of the couch if I have to stop for a few minutes, I inevitably come back to find that she has pulled the quilt off the back of the couch and is "testing" it. Just another use for the binding clips while you are stitching down the binding. I use them all the time and just love them.
