Flower garden quilt repair help needed

Post by ddlion » Sat Feb 27, 2010 6:06 am

I HAVE A FLOWER GARDEN QUILT THAT NEEDS REPAIR ON THE SECOND RING AROUND THE CENTER. THE PIECES HAVE SIX SIDES AND THE RING HAS 12 PIECES IN THE RING. ORIGINALLY I HAD THOUGHT I WOULD APPLIQUE THE PIECES BACK IN PLACE. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU!

ddlion, I've made a quilt with the flower garden blocks and your idea of applique sounds right to me. I don't see any other way to repair it but someone else might have a suggestion. I would do it by hand.

I would try a hand stitch-can you use the ladder or blind stitch to join the two pieces??

Carefully remove the damaged parts and if you can, use them as patterns. Then using fabric from the same era or that looks like it is from the same era, applique each piece. A very fine thread makes this much less visable. Sometimes you can find a 30's print to use and sometimes it works better to use the back so it does not stand out as a replacement. Hope this helped
