hi, these are three of the skeins of 'perle' cotton i just recieved for my hand sewing.
you get about 30 meters in a skein like this, and you just use one strand, which you can see how thick it is. its lovely to quilt with and very strong. i love it. these skeins are variegated and were hand dyed. the 'perle' cotton i used wasn't variegated though. it is a pale lilac. i think it gives the quilt an 'old fashioned', 'oldie worldy' sort of look'.
i'm just a beginner with the hand quilting, so please don't be too judgemental!! lol...

this is a bit of the first blocks stitching;

unfortunately this is as close up as i can get my camera before it goes blurred.

Shelly, I have some of that pearl thread but never thought of using it for hand quilting. You do a beautiful job on hand quilting.

hi, thanks ladies, it's actually very easy to sew with. it feels lovely and has a really nice effect. the only thing is you need a needle with a decent eye as the thread is slightly thicker.
have a try yourselves! i'm converted!!

Jacquie your hand quilting is beautiful!!! I've quilted for 35+ years and have never used perle thread, I will have to try it.
Everyone's quilts are lovely. I need to get the rest of my blocks completed and get my quilt together, but it will have to wait until this fall. I am still busy with my vegetable garden and other summer chores.
Please continue posting pictures---we enjoy them. Redtop

Jacquie...your quilting is just beautiful. Never would I have thought of using perle cotton. The variegated thread is such a good choice. It really adds another dimension to your quilt. You are blessed with lots of creativity to be able to come up with all the motifs.
I am using "El's Method" of quilting...plastic. My LAQer had a tragedy with her favorite dog and was quite distracted for a couple of weeks. However, She told me yesterday that she was almost finished with my quilt. So, I should be getting it back soon. Then I can get the binding and label on. Still thinking about what to put on the label.
