Prairie Braid American Flag Wall Hanging

Post by bzquiltin » Tue Sep 22, 2009 4:18 am

Here are a few pictures of my latest project, a prairie braid American Flag Wall hanging. I am getting ready to make one of fall colors with leaves and acorns at the top in place of the stars.

This is GORGOEOUS! Did you follow a pattern or just 'wing it'? You did a beautiful job! Is it for yourself or for a gift? I can't wait to see your next one! mary z

I did not have a pattern, but did see a similar picture on the internet and then made my own version. The picture I saw had pieced stars on top but I wanted to do some applique. This one is mine, but I have had several requests from friends to make them one. I had the idea to make one for every season --- this one for summer, a fall colored one with leaves and acorns, a red and green one with Christmas trees and mittens, and a pastel one with tulips for spring. The actual prairie braid is just one block and it goes really quickly. It is really easy to quilt also, a simple stitch in the ditch.

OMG, I love the french braid pattern and this is just gorgeous!!! I like the mix of dark/light to create the prairie point look.....without having to make all those praire points. I can see this as a really nice border also.

Love your idea of making one for each season. Please post your fall banner, would love to see it also.
