Operation Kid Comfort- Shirley Mae please read
I contacted Lorean the woman that does my long arm quilting. The group that she works with is called Operation Kid Comfort. They are from the Watertown New York area in connection with the YMCA and Fort Drum. Their email address is
OKCFORTDRUM@yahoo.com their phone number is 315-755-2016
Several people contacted me about getting more information. When I saw those snuggle quilts that Lorean is making with photos of our military heros who give their lives for us every day, leave their famlies to protect us all, it just brought tears to my eyes. Lorean is blanketing a family with 4 children this time. They send you the photos on quilt fabric and the label for the child who will receive the quilt. The rest is up to ones imagination. I don't know what I am going to be able to contribute but I sure know I am going to do something. As I mentioned, this isn't a plug for any organizations or anything like that, just answers to a few questions.

Chrissy, thank you so much for the info. Since I was a military wife, and now am a military mom and MIL both, I have seen this military struggles on both sides. I am living with my dd and GDS while my sil is gone. It is so hard to stand by and feel so helpless in the face of sadness, loneliness, and fear they face every day. Anything, no matter how small, means so much to the military and their families.
I will get in touch with the group and see what I can do to help out in any way. Thank you everyone who does something meaningful for our military families who sacrifice so much for our freedoms and peace in this country. Please say thank you when you see a service man or woman or their family members. It touches the heart of all involved and God will bless you dearly for what you do for others.
Thanks and God's blessings, Chrissy, for answering my questions.
Love and hugs, Shirley mae

I did contact these folks and am going to make my first Kid Comfort quilt soon. This seems like a wonderful idea.
I have a nephew in the military. He is still single, so when he goes back to Iraq for his next tour he leaves behind parent, siblings and extended family. I can see how hard the first deployments have been on the family and can only imagine how hard it must be if the soldier has children.
Anything I can do to help the kids is a gift to me.
Here is the article about Operation Kid Comfort:

I know this has been posted before, but is worth seeing again.

Shirley Mae prayers go out to you and your family for strength and a safe return for your son, and everyone's loved one that is so far from home. You are a strong person. If there is anything that I can do for you or your family to help ease this very difficult time please let me know.
