Don't forget making and attaching the label. Time goes into this part of the process also.

Re: An alternate way to do some projects
I'm new to this community. There is a lot of good suggestion that have been made. I don't feel and again this is all new to me, that it should fall on one persons shoulder. There was a suggestion that quilts being made ahead. That is a good one. I think that quilting sisters would like to do something, but sometimes they are not aware of what is going on. It takes time to go threw all the post that are made daily. For the people that work a full time job, they might miss something that they would like to help with. One good idea that came out of all the post was using the same road that is done with the card.
When you come up with a plan just let me know, I'm more than will to help in anyway I can.

Re: An alternate way to do some projects
I have only recently (since returning from Paducah this year)began to take part in this. One I did, I really didn't know the person or what was going on, one I missed I would have liked to join. I think it started before I decided to join in, though. I have done labels for two or three now. I used the angel that Linda found for us to use on shirts for Paducah, then put the recipient's name and made by El's Angels, 2009 I have had a good response from those labels. I would be willing to do several of them to send to whoever is going to be doing the final work on the quilts, IF they are wanted. Also, when I sent the labels and/or blocks, I put a dollar in to help with expenses. Like someone else, I don't know if it's enough, but figured if everyone participating put in a dollar, and those who couldn't do a block sent some that it would help out whoever was supplying batting/shipping, etc.
Since my experience at my guild, I have been a little leary about discussing this too much. Then, I saw where Peach and Iowagal thought someone was upset with them, when I really think they were just saying, you shouldn't have to shoulder all the responsibility, spread it around a little. I think you've all worked that out now and realize it was a misunderstanding. Remember, we cannot see expressions or hear tones of voices. Everyone here is wanting the same thing and working hard to do good deeds for others. Let me know how I can help.

Well, lots of good ideas here. Peach I had no idea you were buying fabric specifically for these. That is very generous of you. I suppose it doesn't really matter how it is done as long as it is done. I do agree though that a little more organization may allow more people to participate. Not sure how I would do it but I too have found out too late about quilts being made. I am trying to think of what I would like to receive (scrappy or a specific pattern) and I really don't know. I would like to have signatures though from all who participated. So whatever the decision, just let me know and I will do what I can.

Re: An alternate way to do some projects
I've waited to see the ideas and I have some suggestions. (I KNOW ya'll can't WAIT to hear from me!!LOL!
Chriss, I think your idea of the subject line of the thread is a key problem. It is the main reason that I miss some of these projects, or get bogged down tring to find one that I can participate in. The subject lines were often confusing to me, as a new participant. For instance....a new project could say: "NEW PROJECT (date)--NEED BLOCKS", then..."NEW PROJECT (date)--NEED SOMEONE TO SEW TOP", then..."NEW PROJECT (date)--NEED QUILTER", etc. Just like Marilynsgrammie/Chriss said. As it is now, you have to read the entire thread to know the status of the project...and then I'm still not sure. Maybe just make the name of the project the DATE that it began.
Cindy's email idea is good, but there will always be people who will not give out their email addresses and aren't able to create several accounts for different purposes...since I am technically challenged, I am one of those! LOL!
I also understand Pam's desire to contribute fabric and kits. And Grammie's concern that we "share" the expense. Both ladies are right!
It is ingrained in us to be "fair"...but we have to understand that when we want to give of our "material wealth" (how's that for a pun! lol!)we need to be gracious and accept. I have a "stash" that I try to give to others on a regular basis...I tell my sewing friends to come to my house and look through my fabric when they have a project that needs a certain fabric, or just instead of buying it. Do you think that they ever do that??? NO! They don't want to take my fabric! LOL! I can't GIVE the stuff away!! Before I retired I collected fabric like a mad woman...now I know in my heart that Peach has much more than I do...but the point is, I know how she feels. Now, I don't suggest that anyone "take advantage" of generousity...but when it is offered, please accept it with grace and gratitude.
Also, I agree with Chriss about Pam having kits available to send to those who want or need them. Great idea! I also, usually like to make my own, but if time is short, it would be great to have that option!!!
You guys are having a great discussion here....keep it going!!

Re: An alternate way to do some projects
I think this is an excellent idea!! I can sew tops..I can make blocks; I don't have the equipment to do quilting unless it is one that can be tied. Kits or blocks are both great ways to go. Just let me know what I can do to help.

Re: An alternate way to do some projects
Ma Parker posted under CyberSues Thread on this topic. She suggested that we carry on as we have done the past 2 years and keep doing good deeds. IMHO we all need to get along, work together peacefully, keep doing these PFTH, AND cont. to make El proud of El's Angels.
Pop over and read Linda's post. She kindly & generously offered to make some El's Angels labels to have ready. I know she could do other things with her time right now so I thought that was really sweet of her.
As I said earlier, I will do whatever I can, when I can.
Love You All

Re: An alternate way to do some projects
as someone who rarely participates in these (because I got "yelled" at when I had to pull out of a project) It would be perfect for me to be able to pre-make some blocks and send them to a central person to use in a time of need. I think it is a wonderful idea.
I love the card showers and participate in those every time I hear about them.

Re: An alternate way to do some projects
Mmmmm so many good ideas!!
I would love to be part of these Angel Quilts. From all the different ideas I have read it seems that using several different ways of getting blocks or kits done will work best. We range from no time(can send $$)to quilters that can do the whole quilt. Having blocks made ahead of time is a supper idea. That way we can make the when we have the time. If I experience a "need" for one of these I would not care what the colors were. What would count is the love and support of my quilting sisters!!
No matter what is decided I want to be part of this group! I work full time so I might be limited to what I can do. Making blocks when I have free time is good.
What about scrappy quilts? They go with just about everything.
Happy Quilting...Kathy
