Tortilla Warmer

Does anyone have a pattern or knows how to make a tortilla warmer for the microwave?

I don't have a specific pattern for a tortilla warmer, but there is a pattern for wine-glass coasters on www.sewontv.com that might work for you if you enlarged it. Or you could alter it a bit to suit tortillas. maryz

My son bought me one at the Farmer's market that is just two large circles of fabric - sandwiched with thin cotton batting - they made two of the circle sandwiches and stitched them together half way around the circle - from say the 3 o'clock position to the 9 o'clock position - leaving the top half open to insert the tortillas. They added a wooden knobby type button with a fabric loop closure. Works great and keeps them warm on the table too. The warmer edges of the fabric were kept raw and just stitched together with a zig-zag, nothing fancy. It is machine washable and I just throw it in with the kitchen towels when it gets dirty. With the batting I might add some stitching to hold the batt in place

Sewing with Nancy had the pattern. It's really neat. It was in Keepsake Quilting. Might try their web site.

That's a great idea. There's also the Potato Bag - which is the same principle but in a rectangle-shape. Deanne

This is what I just found - from the Kansas City Quilt Guild. I might stitch an "X" through each circle once sewn with the batting/backing - just to help keep it's shape. You could do "raw edge" and pink the edges. Just my two-bits. Deanne

Tortilla Warmer
1. Cut 4 @12 1/2 inch circles of fabric and 2 @12 1/2 inch
circles of batting for large tortillas or 7 1/2 inch circles for small
tortillas. Make sure your fabric, batting and thread are all 100%
cotton
2. Layer 2 circles of fabric, right sides together, and place
batting on top. Sew a generous 1/4 inch seam around the
outside edge leaving a large enough opening to turn bottom
circle right side out. Repeat for other 2 circles of fabric and
batting. It helps to clip about every inch or so around the outside
edge before turning. Fold in raw edges of opening and press.
Top stitch about 1/8 inch in.
3. Machine quilt each circle any way you choose.
4. Place the two circles together and stitch a little more than
half way around
