Re: Sweet Somethings - A Dessert Block Swap--ON THE WAY HOME!!!
Oh, Chriss, that's too funny. When I read your post I almost fell off my chair laughing. Almost fell off the chair when I realized how "duh-y" I was for thinking 30 corners!!!!!!!!!! I needed to be "funned".
(special note: we took the arms off our chairs in our puter room to make it easier to move around and I keep forgetting and almost falling off from laughing)
P.S., just realized that maybe "funning" doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. Cause with my definition, you can always fun me. My definition is "joking with and having fun with", nothing negative at all.
well, I got my wunder under cut and my fusible interfacing traced, so I'm on the right track. I really like having lots of time for this one, I can work on it when I can't get to the sew room--lots of parts I can do as "tv work".
Have a great Friday, everyone, hugs, carol/kittyquilt

Re: Sweet Somethings - A Dessert Block Swap--ON THE WAY HOME!!!
Wow! All of you have sure been busy while I was away from my computer for two days! I couldn't get into the Quilt in a Day website for one entire evening, then yesterday, I went with Maleficent and her hubby, who are here from London, to Disneyland! It was such fun!
Anyway, sorry I wasn't around to answer questions, but once again, our friends have stepped in and done an admirable job.
The correct finished block size is 10" , so please send your blocks to us squared up at 10.5" unfinished size.
The 30 3-1/2" charm squares are intended to be for 30 cornerstones, meaning exactly what Denise (DouceFleur1) described. We will divide them up so each person gets a variety back, some from everyone. You can lay out the blocks in 5 rows of 4 or 4 rows of 5, as you wish. Then set a cornerstone at the corner of each block. The spaces between the blocks that are left would be for sashing strips, also 3-1/2" wide. I'm thinking pastel pin-dots for mine, but anything you like will do. Also, you don't have to use the charms as cornerstones, of course. You can save them for an entirely different project if you'd like!
Once again, I'd like to say that we don't care if we have multiple cupcakes, pies, ice creams, etc. When I first dreamed up this idea, I thought of it as all cupcake blocks, but then started getting other ideas that just seemed like too much fun to ignore. That's why Sewcarolyn and I decided to go with a sort of Quilter's Choice dessert! So, if you're still wishing you could do a cupcake, go for it!!!
Thanks, everyone, for being so helpful about answering the questions for each other! You are all wonderful, and truly SWEET!

Re: Sweet Somethings - A Dessert Block Swap--ON THE WAY HOME!!!
Went to my lqs store and found my charms fabric, veryyyy cute. I was temnpted to buy alot of it but had self-control(actually my walet had self control, not me)! LOL I looked at books and patterns but they didn't have any sweet patterns, keep looking.
I was wondering about the 30 charms also, but now I know!
I might do an ice cream cone, don't know. I am still wandering aimlessly around on the net!
edited for spelling, need spell chex (get it?);

ok, here's my attempt... my needle is making holes in the fabric when I sew... do I need a different size needle for applique? do you think my ice cream and bowl need to be a tad smaller? I really need to know before I start the real blocks... please give me your input.

Wow, Chriss, you are really way ahead of me. Love it, good enough to eat. What size needle are you using? I generally use a #10. One of my wonderful teachers told me to always use the smallest needle you can get your thread through, you'll have the smallest holes possible.
Two comments: As Jana says, a dish of ice cream cannot be too big. But, just make sure there's enough fabric around the edges so we don't loose any when we sew them together LOL.
Thanks for sharing, keep going, my friend. hugs, carol/kittyquilt

I just love your example! I agree that the best bowl of ice cream is a big one! As long as we don't lose any of the design when we stitch the blocks together, it's perfect!
