Beautiful and the red one is just striking. I use stands of embrodiey thread to tie when I tie my quilts. I use a guage of a hand width apart. Heard it fomr someone. Yarn it too difficult and I like the look of the emb, thread. I treid curved needle also and went to a large needle with the big evey I used or silk emb.

WOW!!!Those are such beautiful quilts. Your colors are very nice together. I love tied quilts. Gives it a more lofty look, and I think it adds warmth due to more space for insulation. It also gives them an old fashioned look that just can't be beat. And every knot is tied with love.

I have worked with church groups that tie quilts. There is no exact rule of where you put the ties. Some people put one in each corner of a sq block and one in the center. Others just do random but try to keep the distance fairly even. Your quilt, your choice. Do whatever feels and looks right to you. I think they both look very nice. I like a curved needle and once you figure them out, goes faster but not for everyone. Embroidery thread is best to tie with tho. Try using variegated for a diff look. Yarn is pretty but tends to get fuzzy after a lot of washings. It will hold up tho too.

Thanks so much for sharing. Happy quilting and God bless,
Hugs, Shirley Mae

I love the fabrics and colors you chose for these!

I just checked the Lover's Knot book; the squares are 8" finished. If you used cotton batting and tied at the corner of each square, you should be just fine. I put ties in the borders, too...

These are absolutely beautiful. I think the red is my favorite.

Those are both very beautiful! The first quilt I ever made was tied. If you use cotton batting, you don't have to tie as close together as with others. I have the original Lover's Knot book, but I want to get the updated one (just to have it!) I haven't done a quilt yet, but some day I will:-) I agree, El's directions are so easy to follow--that's why I keep buying QIAD books!
