Help Please

Post by suzette58 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:26 am

I need some help figuring out what quilt pattern this is. The family story says that this quilt is made from my grandfather's baby dresses. He was 94 when he passed away in 1990. I look at it and can't believe the handquilting in it. Hope you can help.
PS: I don't know who made it. I know my grandfather was born in Tennesse but that is about it.

WOW!!! That is one beautiful quilt. The hand work on it is so precise and well done. I have a book called "Illustrated Index to Traditional American Quilt Patterns." It was put together by Susan Winter MIlls. It was published in 1980 and has over 700 quilt blocks in black and white with the various names beside them from different parts of the country. It doesn't tell how to make them but a wonderful reference book. And I paid $.50 for it at a quilt show several yrs ago.

From what I can see about the star pattern it looks like it is called: Ohio Star-Variation 2; Eastern Star-var 1; Eight Point Star; Lone Star, var 2; Shoofly, var 2; Texas; and Tippecanoe and Tyler too. Take your pick from the list. Depends on where you live.

Not sure this helps much but gives you a place to start anyway. Thanks so much for sharing. Hugs and God bless, Shirley Mae

My goodness! What a quilt!!!!!! It's stunning!! The stitching is outstanding. What type of batting do you think they used? I always wonder what they used before 80/20 or Warm and Natural. :o)
