Jeanne, I took Betty Cotton's class on her theory in Jan. at "Road to California". I agree, her technique is something I really want to use. You can really experiment with quite a bit of the decorative stitches. I'll probably only use them on a small quilt or table runner. It was a great class. Lucie

Lucie, I haven't made any of Betty Cotton patterns yet, I would love to take her class. I just used the binding technique on two of my quilts. I wish the stitching showed up in the pictures I took. I have given both of those quilts away so I can't take another picture.

Took a cotton theory class and loved it. We made a table runner and a tote bag, they both turned out nice. I got her 2nd book back in the fall and in it they have a bom that they put together using the cotton theory method. I only have about 8-10 bom's that are ufo's!! I have used decorative stitches on my machine on small projects and they turned out fine. It is fun playing with all of them.

I have the Pfaff 2144 and I use the my fancy stitches all the time - I do alot of embroidery work and designed a wedding quilt for my son and his wife a few years ago. I use the blanket stitch as I haven't got into hand applique. One of my favorite stitches is a hem stitch that I use to start my edging on receiving blankets. I then crochet a fancy edge on the blankets. It makes the hole for my hook to go thru when I use a wing needle and even spacing too. This is my second computerized machine as I wore out the motor on the other one after 25 years of use. I find time to sew/quilt daily now that all my children have flown the coop and I can spoil grandbabies with quilts and whatevers!!!!!

I have a Designer II and I too have used most of the decorative stitches on my machine on small quilts. Larger quilts are too heavy to get even feed and the decorative stitches distort.

I bought my sewing machine to get the quilting features that I wanted and it just happened to have the decorative stitches on it!
I use the decorative stitches to stich down the label on the back of the quilt always.
After making and quilting a nautical baby quilt that was appliqued by machine, I washed it and some of the stitching on the appliques came loose. I used some of the decorative stitches when I re-sewed some of the appliques! Turned out really cute!
