I am so embarrassed

Post by suzette58 » Sat Feb 21, 2009 12:44 pm

I was working on a quilt this evening and mentioned to my husband that my machine was louder then usual. I finished what I was doing and took the throat plate off. OMG!!! The lint in there was packed. No wonder was louder then usual. So, remember to clean your machine on a regular basis.

And change the needle, too. Sometimes a dull needle can cause a LOT of noise!

I definitely agree w/ both suggestions. DH walked by the sewing room one day, stuck his head in and said it sounded like I needed a new needle. Now why can he hear that but not the TV or me???

Suzette, the same thing happened to me last week. I just couldn't understand why it was making so much noise because I had removed the bobbin and cleaned in there. Then the darn thing started breaking my thread so I took the throat plate off and OMG, I could have stuffed a pillow with all that lint.LOL

I don't normally let it go like that, I guess I was just on a roll making my flannel rag quilt. I should have remembered that flannel creates alot of lint and the machine needs to be cleaned out more often.

I did that with my serger. Thing just wouldn't sew. Cleaned it out and everything, still wouldn't sew. Took it to my friend at the fabric store to check it out and she called me and said....... you cleaned the machine bu you forgot to take off the pressure foot and clean the feed dogs.......LOL Talk about being able to stuff a pillow with the lint.

Should change your needle every 8 hours of sewing or with each new project. These aren't our Grandmother's needles. They don't make them like they used to and don't last for years.
