Thank you for all your kind words.

Since that experience, I've tried to follow my heart when making quilts. Even commissioned quilts. One lady wanted a quilt made for her daughter who was having a baby. All she told me was to make it bright. OK....but orange? That's what worked for the border so I put it on and took it in feeling a bit apprehensive. Turns out her daughter's fav color is orange and she loved it!

When I made my grandson's quilt I just pulled fabric out of my stash and all that I knew was my dd and dsil both liked green. When I arrived in Texas for the baby shower, I just about fainted when I saw the baby room. The color on the wall and the bedding were an exact match for the colors I choose. I did it in avocado greens and taupe which are unusal baby colors. It matched so well, my daughter wanted to hang it on the wall in his room, but I told her it was made for him to enjoy. I guess it was meant to be!

Both your stories are so moving. I know this type of thing can happen. One night in a dream, my late son told me to use more brights and be more daring. I'm trying

Sharon, Such beautiful star quilts. God is always there leading us. All we need to do is believe and follow. When we wander off on our own, that is when we get into trouble. I love your color choices and how appropriate in all the situations.

Several yrs ago I was making a quilt for my nephews new baby. Then I remembered the little Jessica who had just turned 3. I grabbed some scraps and in a few hrs put together a very simple but cute dolly blanket for the big sister, Jessica. My own sister (the grandma) gave me a piece of scrap from a quilt she had made earlier for the older child to use in the quilt. I added a few pieces with animals too to make it cutesy.

I sent the little quilts along with my sister to a baby shower in another state. When my sister returned, she said that was the best gift I could have given the older child. She carried it everywhere and soon discovered it matched her own quilt. She loved it. I think God spoke to me about not leaving the older child out. I am so glad I followed his plan for me that day.

So keep on listening to your heart. God is speaking to you. Hugs across the miles, Shirley Mae

Shirley Mae and ctherrie, Thank you for sharing your stories. This is what I was hoping would happen.....telling your quilt stories when it just 'happened' to end up perfect!

Rosie, When I first started quilting, I was afraid of using brights, but once I got passed the first quilt, it's been fun. Try making a few 6 1/2" (unfinished) Friendship Star blocks using black as the background with bright stars....you might surprise yourself! @:)
