about postage on sp gifts please read my mistake

Post by ollie1shoe » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:48 am

i was being careful to put clear mailing tape around end of my bubble wrap package to make sure ends did not come open and it went over some of the postage stamps i had already put on package when i took it to post office to finish paying the remaining postage she told me my stamps could not be cancelled out to show they were used i said theres no way they could be reused as the taped would tear them up when it is removed well finally another worker said oh i think it will be fine just in the future dont cover stamps with clear tape i almost felt like they thought i was trying to do something ilegal so i thanked them and left now the reason i am saying all this is to maybe keep someone else from making the same embarasing mistake and to also tell my sp if for some reason she has to pay some postage on my package PLEASE PLEASE let me know i would really be red faced if she had to pay for any shortage on it now i will worry till i hear from her ollie 1shoe (glenda)

Glenda - recently when I went to mail a package - I was told the same thing - but there wasn't any tape on the stamps - they were shiny sunflower ones and the postal worker thought I was trying to pull something off - told him to look in his drawer and look at his stamps in there and yep - his were shiny too - he did apoligize :o)

Wow! That's surprising! In fact, I almost put tape on some stamps this morning, but decided not to. I may get the letter back, though, because I had put the stamps on another envelope, then decided not to send it, so I cut them off and glued them to a different envelope! LOL Hmm... they may send this one back to me.. Oh well, we'll see!

I thought about the clear tape the last time I mailed a package..and made sure that I left the part where the PO puts on the stamps open. I figured if I put all that clear, slick tape all over the top of the package, the stamps wouldn't stick to it and might come off. So that's something else to think about! lol! Learn something new every day! My PO is always so helpful...they probably feel like I'm their buddy now that I'm in there all the time since I joined this forum and mail stuff all the time! lol!

I've been told that if you need to use tape to make sure a stamp doesn't peel off, tape along the EDGES only, so most of the stamp is tape-free so it can be postmarked. (I've made the mistake of putting stamps on envelopes and then never getting them mailed, so I steamed off the stamps so I could use them -- or just cut them off the original envelope so there is nothing sticky on the back anymore.)
