Re: Snowcovered Tuesday January 27th.
Good morning...it is 13 and cloudy here in SE Michigan.....I will go to weight watchers this morning for my weigh in then up to the hosp to sit with my Dbil while sis has her surgery....DD won't be going with me today DGS has preschool and a haircut appt. So I will sew this afternoon when I get back...and try to think of something for supper....probably fish today or chicken....I hate diets.....but I need this
We had a dusting of snow here over night and it just says snow flurries. Those of you in ice storms just stay home it is safer that way....You may have 4 wheel drive but the brakes just don't work on ice.
Here is MI we are so used to it...but it is still dangerous..It seems MI drivers have one level..go as fast as you can without sliding...Be safe everyone
Come July and August won't we all be complaining about the heat and AC costs...lol

Re: Snowcovered Tuesday January 27th.
DH woke me up saying it was snowing, then he went outside. It's not snowing, it's icing! He's about to go to work now, probably won't be home for lunch again today unless they let him off early(not likely) I was so hoping for snow too, it hasn't snowed here at all this winter. I'm going to go finish my coffee and feed the baby, then I'll probably be cutting up some less than FQ pieces I have into strips for my strip bins.

jameswife2003 do you make strip quilts?? I'm working on a "crumb" quilt now..it's some work to iron all those scraps that have been just dumped into bins! Wish I had known about crumb and strip years ago!

It's gloomy and 70* here now but the cold is to blow in this afternoon and the temps will drop to the 40's. In the 28 yrs. I've worked here we've only closed down one day for an "ice day". I never get a break! Well, that's not exactly true. I did get a couple of days when Hurricane Ike came but we didn't have any power so I couldn't sew - what good is that?
I didn't sew last night. I watched "Mamma Mia" then went to bed with ABBA music in my head - LOL.
Y'all be careful if you are in cold country and stay warm.
Me - let us know what the doctor says.

MaryEllen - prayers continue - let us know how your appointment goes (and what the heck are you doing up so early??)
Bubbles - Lucas is adorable, growing up too fast - love the pictures
Stay safe everyone

SNOW DAY!! WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO!
In the sewing room - just cleaned my old Dressmaker machine as the Bernina is visiting the Bernina Doc for a cleaning and tune up. Gotta love this old machine.
DH does work for the utility company. He's been climbing poles for 30 years now. We actually live about 2 hours north of St. Louis but he works for the big power company based in St. Louis so when they have storm jobs, they will pull several men from many of the area garages to come help. They'll leave a few at home in case there is trouble there. The men take turns on the storm jobs through a rotating call-out list. That way they all get a turn. Course they can always say no to a storm job too if they want but most of them go if they can.
He's heading down towards the Cape Girardeau and SE Missouri area to work where ever the lights go out. He'll call me tonight to let me know a better picture of what's going on. I can follow how many people are out of lights through the company website.
Actually you can too! If anyone in MO or IL is on Ameren, you can check the outages at www.ameren.com and then click on "outage information" and follow the links to your area. Course even if you aren't on Ameren, you can go look. The numbers have been going up all morning down around Malden and Kennett and Sikeston. As the storm moves through the numbers are gonna get much higher I'm afraid.
Ok - back to sewing for a bit! Y'all stay warm!

Good Morning Everyone -
You all sound very COLD! I do not remember when I lived in the cold so the information Joanne gave on levels was very interesting and enlightening. Hummingbird I will remember all the lineman and emergency personnel in prayers for the next few days. Spring is coming ladies so keep sewing on those snowy days.
I will be hanging around for a while. I need to mark this quilt for quilting.
Stay safe and warm!
Carol

Re: Snowcovered Tuesday January 27th.
Joannequilts, I want to make a string quilt(actually several) so I've been collecting strings. It takes forever to get enough for me:) I'm going to make a spiderweb for my DH first probably, then once I have enough I'm going to make the one from Egg Money Quilts for me. Of course, this is after I finish up some of the UFO's first. DH keeps teasing me, "You've been quilting for almost 4 years and I still don't have a quilt!!!" As soon as I think I can sew again without messing it up totally I'm going to put borders on one for him:)
sorry, totally got off on a tangent:) Yes, most of the time I strip piece if at all possible. but what I'm cutting today will most likely be for string quilts. I haven't finished my coffee yet.

Hummingbird, I'm a little familiar with Missouri..my son was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood for 4 years, we've been to Cape Girardeau and Sikeston (the Throwed Rolls! ymmm!). Thanks so much for helping me to understand where you are and your DH's duties!! I guess I'm a "visual" person..I like to be able to "see" where things are happening and where you all live!
jameswife2003 glad you got "off on a tangent"!!! What size to you cut your strips that you're doing now??
