no binding??
ok, this is how I think it's done......make a quilt sandwich, quilt it....
then take the fabric you really want to use as your backing and put it over the top of the quilt right sides together....sew all around the edges leaving a little open so you can turn it inside out... then sew up the little opening.
am I right??? and which is easier, doing it this way or just putting binding on the quilt...?

Re: no binding??
Your back won't be quilted.
I'm working on one now. Top to batting, then backing rights sides together with the top, sew leaving opening, turn, stitch closed, then lay flat, pin baste, quilt. I saw El to this on a show.

I sew 1/2 around the edges after turning. It gives a finished edge to the quilt. Usually only light quilting is used on turned quilts because puckering can be a problem.

I've been using El's "Birthing Method" on most of the baby and utility quilts I've made. However, I found by sewing a narrow strip of fabric that looks like binding on my Table Runners, I can actually use this method on them, too, and it looks like there's a binding on it! It was fun to 'make' it work! *grin*

Re: no binding??
lol. I don't do alot of bindings on my quilts, I just turn both edges, front & back in, pin them together, all the way around, then edge stitch it all the way around. Works for me & none have ever come apart.
