HELP,found strange pieces

Post by churchmouse » Sat Jan 10, 2009 2:31 am

I was going through my sewing stuff the other day and found a can full of pieces I had made years ago and now have forgotten what they were for. They are small circles that are folded twice and tacked making a triangle that is rounded at the bottom. They are similar to the folded star pattern but are much smaller. They are only 1 1/2 inches tall and about 2 inches wide at the bottom. Does anyone have any ideas about what they are for or what I can do with them? I can't seem to get them to work for the folded star, too small.

HI, Could you have made them to use as flower petals in an applique project. That would be my thought. Marge

Could they be for flower buds on a Rose of Sharon block? I don't have any done that way right now. They would be placed like the appliqued buds are in this block.

khoward--they probably could be but it seems to me that the way they are folded that if you did a whole quilt it would be fairly heavy.I seem to remember that my late husbands aunt was using them in a quilt somehow but for the life of me I cannot remember how. If not a quilt what other way could I use them? I like that Rose of Sharron pattern I might try sometime when I finish my butterfly I am working on. If I play with them much longer I will wear them out then I won't have to think about them. HA

There was a book that was popular several years ago that had folded fabric flowers. Could you have been making something from that book?

I saw this video on quilts TV tonight. Are your pieces the size of a CD when open?http://link.brightcove.com/services/lin ... d361585353

K, no my pieces are much smaller than a CD, the circles are only 2 3/4 across when opened. In fact it's been so long they were probably made before CD's were.HA

institches, could you give me the name of the book you mentioned I don't have the book but it is possible that the pattern I need could be in it.
