Post by Marilynsgrammy » Fri Jan 09, 2009 1:40 am

if I want to end up with a 4 inch block what size do I cut... I am thinking 4 1/2 but don't want to be wrong.

thanks to all who are not mathmatically challenged

You're right, start with 4 1/2" block, by the time you use a 1/4" seam allowance, the finished size will be 4 inches.

Chriss - I was taught to add 1/2-inch to allow for two quarter inch seams (one on each side) to any block size I wanted. Hope that helps.
