i think I've found my fabric now... but have one question. One of my fabrics is not quite 3/4 yard----but close--- do you think I could stretch it and make it work for fabric B? It's actually about 29 inches long, but there's a bit cut out of one corner-- about an 8x8 section... I have another selection that I could use, but I do like this one better...

I had thought about using the questionable piece as color A, and using something else for the border... Maybe if I subtract for the border, the scant 3/4 yard would be enough...?

Or should I just choose something else... I have the hardest time choosing! ;-)

Any advice? (Oh, also, just remembered--- I'll be using the squares and rectangles-- old fashioned method-- for making my flying geese... don't know which method uses more fabric-- QIAD flying geese ruler or the old-fashioned method...

thanks! :-)

Bamagirl,

In this particular instance, the squares and rectangles take more fabric than the QIAD rulers do. The good news, is I think you'll still have enough fabric even with the 8 x 8 square missing from the length. Color B is only used in the flying geese, so take a look at the cutting instructions to see if you agree with my accessment

Borders --- the borders are included in the cutting instructions for Color A, although they are not labeled as such. You won't know until the next to last clue what we are using for the borders. It will be what is left over after the blocks are assembled.

Well, in looking at the first post, I see I signed up for this. I have my first cuts done. Going to start working on my flying geese. I have got to get a calendar and get all these on it. My mind is not keeping up with me. I have pulled some fabric from my stash. Will post pics when I can.

Oh goody, I love Mysteries. I'll try to get mine done before I take off for New Years although I'm in the middle of another mystery (a Storm at Sea). I love the traveling I've been doing for the holidays, but I'm not getting much quilting done! Now, which fabrics to use???? Oh dear, guess I'll just have to go shopping again--I found out the Paducah store has fabric frenzy too!!!!! And everything is on sale, love it.

Everyones' fabrics are beautiful! Love the colors!

Yesterday, I've worked on cutting all the pieces and sewn all the flying geeses. Here what it looks like! My flying geeses with dark skies look weird, I have forgot to take a picture before doing Clue #3.

Denise -- I promise the geese with the dark skies will work out fine in the finished quilt top.

Pam, I'm sure they'll be fine. Because I had forgot to take a picture before adding and not to spoil Clue #3 in the post of Clues #1 and 2, I had turned the sewn pieces under the flying geese. That,s why it looks weird! :-) <<giggles>>

Oh man, I'm so irritated with myself. I was trying to hurry and catch up and didn't read the instructions well enough. I started cutting the 3 1/2" strips for my fabric B and after cutting 4 of them I realized I was looking at the wrong page because I want to use the QIAD flying geese ruler. Ugh! I still have enough fabric to cut the 9" strips, but then what will I do with these 3 1/2" strips? Now I'm not sure what I want to do. I don't really want to make all those geese the rectangle and square way because I know it's going to take me a lot longer and they probably will not come out as good as doing it with the ruler, but on the other hand, if I do it the rectangle and square way I won't be wasting fabric or limiting my use for it in future projects. What would you do?? Help please...I need opinions!! Thanks! :)
