Looking for a pattern for jelly rolls and charms
Hi! I'm looking for a pattern I can use that relies on 2.5 inch strips and 5 inch charms. It can use some other sizes too but I have my eye on some Moda jelly rolls and I'm itching to get some, but won't until I have a pettern in hand.
I have El's Still Stripping book but I'm looking for a pattern that will be friendly towards the big mixture of fabric patterns and colors you get in a jelly roll, and one that uses a lot of them!
I have tons of charms too (from swaps). I'm thinking of doing a checkerboard pattern using tiny squares cut from the charms.

I know the Tossed 9 Patch (QIAD pattern) uses 5" charms.
Also, the double pinwheel (QIAD book) uses 2 1/2" strips. You could get a solid, or a tone on tone to tie them all in and use up a lot of those strips. It makes a really pretty scrappy quilt.
There's a website that has several charm patterns. I'll try to find it.

Lynne,
I used the "Tossed Nine Patch" pattern of El's with charm pack. I used almost 5 charm packs and added borders for a 60" x 74" quilt.
I do not have the "Still Stripping" book so I cannot recommend anything from it.

The Fat Quarter shop has some free patterns for charms:

Here's the link for the Double Pinwheel. It's real easy and quick to do.

The tossed 9 patch. It looks like it takes 2 1/2" strips, but it doesn't. It's all 5 inch charms.

Like the others I have done the Tossed Nine Patch. I love it. It works up easy and looks wonderful. You can put it together 2 different ways. With and without sashing.

I found a book on line the other day called "Jelly Roll Quilts" by Pam and Nicky Lintott. It has some really quick and easy quilts in it. I got it through Amazon.com. < $20.

My daughter made me a tote bag for Christmas using charm packs.I think she used two packs. It is really handy with lots of pockets inside. I am sure she has the instructions I could get if you want them.

This one is very easy, I started it on Wednesday after work and have it almost finished.
