Looking for this quilt block pattern.

Post by sewbug » Thu Nov 06, 2008 12:02 pm

I bought a jigsaw puzzle mostly for the quilt pattern. Is this a known quilt block pattern? I made up one square and there has to be a better way then how I made it.

Here is one I found - When I made this block - since I don't like what ever you call those seams in corner (brain is not functioning) - I made the corners 1/2 square triangles

I used HSTs too but it sure is time consuming. I think I'll play around with it and see if I can find a quicker way.

It looks a lot like Eleanor's Garden Lattice pattern. You could change the blocks from on-point to regular setting and make the lattice strips wider with lighter & darker shaded fabric. The block centers would be 4 triangles as in the GL pattern. I THINK that would work!

If you sew a light and dark strip together, open it flat, then cut triangles (long side along the edge of the light fabric...)

Sew 4 triangles together (90degree angles meet in the middle - long light edges around the outside) to make Quarter Square Triangles. It woud have a similar look... Your seams would go from the middle of the block out to each corner. (kinda like El's fussy cut rulers)

Does this help?

I think I found the easiest way. Make it the way the Puss in the Corner block is made and put HSTs in the corners. Easier construction.

Deni I tried your suggestion this morning and it works just fine. This block looks so simple but it sure isn't.

Hey, these are spools! QIAD has a pattern for this in the Block Party series, in book 3. Each 12" block is made of 4 "spools".

This is a pretty, pretty quilt! The rainbow color progression made this simple pattern into something very special.

Does the spools have the same setting as this pattern? I can do the spools but the sashing is the hard part to figure out to be quick.

Couldn't you do it like a mitred corner in a border?
