Quilting Retreat

Post by katiekoala » Sat Oct 04, 2008 11:27 am

G'Day,well here I am back from my quilting retreat in Rockhampton in sunny Qld, there were seven students in the class of Tita's,and we did a quilt called "Purple Ladies and thier cats! it is a series of little quilts sewn onto a large one! seven ladies five cats and ten flower blocks it was a labour intensive work shop but as Tita is an excellent teacher it was great fun!we learnt about free standing petal, leaves and then there was the beading work as the ladies have beading on thier jackets! one of the girls Marilyn decided that she would use her machine to sew some of the pieces! well the look on Tita's face was priceless adn she said ina very english voince "I never have sewing machines in my classes! all her quilts are done by hand only! but such beautiful works deserved to be done by hand and as she said it will take twelve months out of your quilting life to complete the quilt.I will endeavour to post the blocks I have finished (four in all) if not I will send them to one of the ladies on the forum for her to post for me.it was just a great time I caught up with old mates from last year my sister had had her hip replacement done which meant that she could get around without being in a lot of pain.good food lots of laughs and am looking forward to next year if I am back from our trip around Oz in our sidecar outfit! as we leave in April 09 and going around the top end first then over to Broome in Western Australian then down to Perth then across the nullabor plains back home! "God willing all goes well"!

G'Day Kathy!! Welcome back! I'm glad you had a wonderful time with your sister and the other ladies. I can't wait to see a picture of your blocks. Your trip planned for next year sounds like it's going to be a really fun adventure. I hope we'll get to see a picture of you in the sidecar. :) Hugs, Lori

G'day Katie, good to see you!! The quilt sounds marvelous and fun--can't wait to see some pix when you get the chance to send.
Looks like you had a wonderful time, and it's always good to see old friends as well.

Hand quilting, too!! I do like to do applique.

Hugs,
Carol
